Job summary

The Landscape Irrigation Technician at Mission Landscape Companies is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of irrigation systems across cemetery grounds to keep landscapes healthy and respectful.

You will diagnose issues, program controllers, perform startups, monitor water use, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance. This full-time, on-site role requires 2+ years of irrigation experience and a conscientious, professional demeanor on sensitive grounds.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years of landscape irrigation experience required.
  • Experience in cemetery or large landscaped property preferred.
  • Knowledge of irrigation systems, wiring, valves, controllers, programming and water pressure management.
  • Ability to read irrigation plans and blueprints.
  • Must possess a valid California driver’s license with driving record acceptable to the Company's insurance carrier.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair irrigation systems and components.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical/hydraulic irrigation issues.
  • Program and adjust controllers by seasonal/weather needs.
  • Perform system startups and seasonal inspections.
  • Repair irrigation lines damaged by cemetery works.
  • Schedule irrigation to avoid conflicts with services.
  • Monitor water usage and conserve resources.
  • Maintain records of repairs and system updates.
  • Ensure safety and local water regulations compliance.
  • Operate trenching tools and related equipment safely.
  • Notify supervisor immediately of unsafe conditions.

REPORTS TO: Sr. Crew Supervisor
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair irrigation systems including controllers, valves, sprinkler heads, rotors, drip lines, and backflow devices.
  • Diagnose electrical and hydraulic irrigation issues and perform necessary repairs.
  • Program and adjust irrigation controllers based on seasonal requirements and weather conditions.
  • Perform system startups and seasonal inspections.
  • Repair damaged irrigation lines caused by grave preparation or landscaping activities.
  • Coordinate irrigation scheduling to avoid interference with funeral services and visitors.
  • Monitor water usage and identify opportunities for conservation.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, adjustments, and system updates.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and local water management guidelines.
  • Operate trenching tools, pipe cutters, and other related equipment safely.
  • Notifying crew supervisor immediately of unsafe working conditions or practices observed in the area

SUMMARY

The Landscape Irrigation Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of irrigation systems throughout cemetery grounds. This role ensures turf, trees, shrubs, and landscaped areas are properly irrigated while maintaining the respectful and dignified appearance of the property.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, digging, and standing for extended periods.

  • Regularly lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds, frequently lifting or moving up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lifting or moving up to 50 pounds
