Irrigation Technician

Irrigation Technician Job Description

The Irrigation Technician must be thoroughly familiar with all aspects of irrigation systems to include wiring controllers and valves, pressure testing, trenching/pulling pipe; installing heads, rotors, valves, operating equipment, ordering correct materials; and interfacing with customers, subcontractors, and architects, etc. Require minimal supervision and conduct all jobs in a safe manner and, if necessary, directing a crew of one other team member. The Irrigation Technician must also attend to and complete all paperwork and administrative requirements related to the job while creating and maintaining a professional job atmosphere.

Job Skills & Personal Characteristics

Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
Possess a valid driver’s license and must be insurable on company’s insurance policy.
Minimum of two years of experience in irrigation services preferred.
Thoroughly understands all aspects of irrigation systems as outlined.
Able to operate company equipment: trenches, geo-ripper, wire locator, mini skid-loader, multimeter, pullers, trucks, tampers, etc.
Able to perform daily preventative maintenance on company equipment.
Able to read irrigation plans and drawings.
Able to lay out the job site and order materials.
Able to operate irrigation GPS locator system for controllers, valves, heads, rotors, etc.
Ensures all jobs are kept on schedule and on budget.
Able to interact with clients, subcontractors, etc. in a professional and competent manner.
Able to work with minimal supervision but knows when to ask for assistance.

Physical Demands

Physically able to handle the workload of an Irrigation Technician.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a routine basis without assistance.
Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body.
Ability to bend and stoop on a continual basis.
Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
Ability to work around bees, poison ivy, pollen, thorns and other environmental risks.
Wear work boots, company uniforms, and present yourself in a clean and professional manner.
Must wear provided company personal protective equipment (PPE).
