Job summary

DFI Resources seeks an experienced irrigation specialist to maintain complex irrigation systems and ensure optimal water delivery for landscapes. You will work with contractors and internal teams to maintain pumps, reservoirs, and computerized controls while upholding exceptional aesthetic standards.

Responsibilities include monitoring water use, reporting data to stakeholders, and supporting short- and long-term goals. Local travel may be required, with a focus on safety and quality.

Qualifications

  • College Degree in Horticulture or equivalent
  • 3+ years experience in residential, golf course or related irrigation work
  • Knowledge of landscape care, irrigation systems, pumps, and water delivery
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; positive attitude

  • Partner with Director of Properties and team to support operations and property needs
  • Oversee all aspects of the irrigation system (wells, reservoir, pumps, computer controls, weather station)
  • Participate in daily grounds support activities to achieve high service and performance standards
  • Review physical surroundings to identify or report quality issues
  • Track and report water use monthly to the LCRA and internally
  • Make recommendations for short- and long-range goals and targets
  • Evaluate water quality issues and propose solutions
  • Carry out special projects as directed by the Horticulture Manager or Director of Properties
  • Assist in applying chemicals to mitigate plant damage from disease, insects, weeds, or drought
  • Manage water filtration

Job DetailsJob Location: Austin Ranch - Austin, TX 78733Position Type: Full TimeEducation Level: Combination of Education and ExperienceTravel Percentage: Minimal/Some Local Travel RequiredJob Shift: Primarily DaytimePosition Summary: Responsible for the maintenance and performance of a complex irrigation systems, including pumps, reservoirs, and computerized controls. This role ensures all plant materials, trees, and ornamentals—receive proper hydration through precise, high-quality water delivery. Works both independently and with contractors to maintain peak system performance, support landscape health, and uphold the highest aesthetic standards.

Position Responsibilities
  • Partner with Director of Properties and company team members to support operations and property needs.
  • Oversee all aspects of the property irrigation system (wells, reservoir, pumps, computer controls, weather station, infrastructure, distribution)
  • Participate in the daily activities of the grounds support team to achieve the highest level of service, detail, and performance standards
  • Oversee the irrigation system and conduct frequent reviews of the physical surroundings to ensure quality issues are identified, repaired, mapped, or properly reported
  • Track and Report water use numbers monthly both to the LCRA and internally
  • Make recommendations in establishing short and long-range goals and meet goal requirements
  • Evaluate water quality issues and make recommendations to successfully resolve
  • Ability to assess disparate information and distill it into a concise report
  • Carry out special projects as required and directed by the Horticulture Manager and/or Director of Properties
  • Assist in the application of chemicals to mitigate plant damage by disease, insects, weeds, or drought

Essential skills and experience
  • College Degree in Horticulture or equivalent work experience 3+ years in residential, golf course or related or any combination of education, licensing, specialized training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Knowledge of landscape care and maintenance; turf plants, ornamentals, trees, fertilization, and disease control
  • Knowledge of irrigation, pump stations, water delivery systems, and computerized irrigation control programs
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; positive attitude
  • Excellent knowledge of general office procedures; as well as intermediate knowledge smart phone and computer skills
  • Excellent time management skills; ability to organize and coordinate multiple projects with available resources
  • Keen attention to detail, honesty, adaptability, dependability, and a willingness to do hands-on work
  • Ability to maintain a high level of strict confidentiality and professionalism
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Valued but not required skills and experience
  • Private estate/hotel/ hospitality/golf course experience
  • Irrigators license
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish
Physical demands and work environment
  • Physical demands: Extensive standing, walking, bending and heavy lifting. Occasional desktop computer work.
  • Work environment: Outdoor setting, rough terrain. Occasional office/cubical setting work. Noise level is moderate to loud.
  • Travel: Some travel required, often on short notice.
