Job summary

RGS Landscape & Arbor Care in Anaheim, CA is seeking an on-site Maintenance Irrigation Technician to troubleshoot, repair and optimize commercial irrigation systems. You will assess efficiency, prepare reports, and coordinate with Account Managers.

You will work bilingual in English and Spanish, handle on-site installations, and keep comprehensive records, with on-call emergency coverage and strict safety adherence.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience with commercial irrigation systems.
  • Experience in Landscape Maintenance Industry with emphasis on troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing irrigation systems.
  • Irrigation technician certification not required, but preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot irrigation systems to determine reparation needs and proper functioning.
  • Layout and install new or renovated irrigation systems.
  • Pull and fit piping for irrigation systems.
  • Set sprinkler heads and valve boxes.
  • Maintain upkeep of irrigation systems in designated areas.
  • Activate and deactivate irrigation systems according to seasonal priorities or pre-established schedules.
  • Communicate with customers on job progress to ensure satisfaction and discuss additional landscaping opportunities.
  • Visit properties to evaluate revenue opportunities and assist with design of irrigation proposals.
  • Alert the Account Manager of potential problems and recommend changes to improve job performance.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment and materials used on the job.
  • Observe all company policies and safety requirements.

Job description

The Maintenance Irrigation Technician troubleshoots and repairs existing irrigation systems, assesses irrigation systems' effectiveness and efficiency, makes recommendations to clients, completes reports, irrigation controller charts, as-builts, and other documents as part of the daily job duties. The Associate plays a critical role in establishing a strong relationship with new clients and their properties and is a key position within the Landscape Maintenance Division. The Irrigation Technician regularly reports the findings of job site visits to the Account Manager and partners to propose upgrades, repairs and enhancements to existing irrigation systems.

  • Troubleshoot irrigation systems to determine reparation needs and proper functioning.
  • Layout and install new or renovated irrigation systems.

  • Communicate with customers on job progress routinely to ensure satisfaction with service and solve problems to foster a positive relationship and discuss additional landscaping opportunities.
  • Execute timely service and quality work to all customer locations where irrigation work is done.
  • Visit properties to evaluate all revenue generating opportunities and assist with design of irrigation proposals based on findings.
  • Alert the Account Manager of any potential problems anticipated or observed and recommend any changes in methods, schedules and procedures to improve job performance.
  • Ensure appropriate security of all tools, equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Ensure the safe and proper utilization of equipment and hand tools.
  • Participate in on-call services to provide evening, weekend and holiday emergency service.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment and materials used on the job to ensure sufficient inventory for providing services.
  • Maintain strict punctuality at starting and ending times, break and lunch periods.
  • Observe all company policies and procedures including dress standards, safety and timekeeping policies.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Working knowledge of commercial irrigation systems, irrigation parts, controllers, valves, sprinkler heads, and associated components.
  • Basic understanding of a broad range of irrigation system controllers, including weather management irrigation controllers.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, personal awareness, a high degree of professionalism and business decorum while maintaining quality and technically proficient work.
  • Effective administrative, organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
  • Must be able to follow directions and apply principles of logical thinking to define problems and initiate appropriate course of action.
  • Must be able to follow written or verbal orders.
  • Ability to efficiently and accurately use an electronic hand held device to record Associate time worked.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
REQUIRED LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
  • Must possess a valid California Driver's License and auto insurance.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • High School diploma required or General Educational Development (GED).
  • Minimum 5 years' experience with commercial irrigation systems.
  • Prior experience in the Landscape Maintenance Industry is required with emphasis on troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing commercial landscape irrigation systems.
  • Irrigation technician certification is not required, but preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Lifting, carrying and manipulating objects up to 50 pounds for varying periods of time. Constant standing, sitting, walking, stooping, squatting, bending, climbing, twisting, traversing uneven ground, reaching, pulling, stretching, grasping and gripping (hand tools and equipment), getting in and out of vehicles (vehicle cab and bed) throughout the day.
  • Must be able to wear all personal protective equipment according to company Safety Health and Environmental Policies, Industry Related ANSI Safety Requirements and OSHA Regulations.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Working conditions are outdoors with exposure to the following: Hot and cold temperatures, sudden changes in temperatures, varying levels of noise, slippery surfaces, rain, dust/dirt, fumes, wind, uneven ground and landscaped slopes.

  • A wide range of hand tools including but not limited to: loppers, shears, pruners, hand saw, bow rake, leaf rake, pole pruner, pole saw, push broom, shovel, pipe wrench, pipe vise, channel lock pliers, wire cutters, universal remote controls, wire toner and pipe cutters.
