Qualifications

  • Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions in irrigation work.
  • Working knowledge of irrigation systems and controllers.
  • Skills in using standard hand and power irrigation tools.
  • Ability to push/pull and operate irrigation equipment on rough terrain.
  • Ability to lift up to 150 lbs with assistance.
  • Must acquire a valid Kansas driver's license.
  • Must obtain a Class A CDL within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct irrigation testing.
  • Install irrigation nozzles, valves, drains and pipe; repair systems.
  • Remove snow from walks.
  • May supervise seasonal employees in the absence of the supervisor.
  • Test, install, and repair backflow prevention devices.
  • Assist with prescribed burns.

Job description

Distinguishing Features of Work

This is irrigation work conducting general irrigation repairs, installation of irrigation equipment, stocking supplies in work truck and some grounds keeping duties.

Employees within the department of division shall be given first consideration.

Examples of Work Performed
  • Conducting irrigation systems testing
  • Install irrigation nozzles, valves, drains and pipe. Make repairs to irrigation systems
  • Removes snow from walks
  • May oversee seasonal employees in the absence of the supervisor
  • Test, installs, and repairs backflow prevention devices
  • Assist with prescribed burns

  • Other related duties may be assigned as needed
Requirements of Work
  • Some knowledge of the standard tools, equipment materials, methods and practices used in irrigation and grounds maintenance work
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of the work
  • Working knowledge of the irrigation systems and irrigation controllers
  • Skills in the use of standard hand and power equipment used to perform irrigation tasks
  • Ability to push and/or pull and operate standard irrigation equipment over rough terrain
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 150 lbs. with the assistance of another person
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license.
  • Be able to secure a Class "A" CDL driver's license within six (6) months of hire. If you are a Canadian or Mexican citizen, you will be required to have or obtain a CDL from your home country.
  • Be able to secure a City of Wichita Backflow Prevention Installer/Tester Technicians Certificate within six (6) months of hire
