Job summary

The City of Tehachapi is seeking a Maintenance Worker I in the Landscape & Grounds Division of the Public Works Department. This full-time entry-level position performs semi-skilled landscape, grounds, irrigation, and general maintenance duties under supervision.

You will assist with installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of irrigation systems, work with the Irrigation Systems Specialist, and help maintain City parks, medians, and other public spaces while promoting water

Qualifications

Hands-on irrigation experience preferred.
Experience with installation and repair of irrigation systems.
Experience with leak detection and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

Irrigation Maintenance & Repair: Install, inspect, maintain, and repair irrigation systems.
Irrigation System Support: Locate leaks, repair lines, replace heads/valves, troubleshoot.
Irrigation Installation: trenching, install piping, valves, wiring.
Landscape & Grounds Maintenance: mow, edge, trim, prune, weed control, cleanup.
Plant & Landscape Care: plant/maintain trees, shrubs, turf, flowers.
Water Conservation: identify leaks and excessive watering.
Equipment & Tool Operation: operate City vehicles, mowers, trenchers, tools.
General Public Works Support: assist with events, emergencies, projects.
