Job summary

Clean Scapes is a leading Texas commercial landscaping company seeking an experienced Irrigation & Backflow Technician for field work in San Antonio. You will inspect, troubleshoot, test, maintain, and repair commercial irrigation and backflow systems in outdoor environments.

The role requires minimum 5 years of irrigation experience, the ability to diagnose issues independently, and strong knowledge of controllers, valves, sprinklers, piping, and wiring.

Qualifications

  • Commercial landscaping or irrigation experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and diagnose commercial irrigation systems to identify leaks, pressure problems, coverage issues, damaged components, controller issues, and other system deficiencies.
  • Perform irrigation repairs, including troubleshooting and repairing valves, sprinkler heads, piping, controllers, wiring, and other irrigation system components.
  • Inspect and test backflow prevention assemblies in accordance with applicable requirements and procedures.
  • Identify issues with backflow prevention assemblies and determine when repairs, adjustments, or additional corrective action are needed.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, adjust, and program irrigation controllers to ensure systems operate properly and efficiently.
  • Evaluate irrigation and backflow systems for proper operation and identify deficiencies requiring repair or attention.
  • Accurately document testing results, repairs, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance to prevent system failures and maintain efficiency.
  • Clearly communicate identified issues, completed repairs, and needs to supervisors, operations teams, and clients when appropriate.
  • Maintain tools and equipment and follow safety procedures while performing irrigation and backflow work.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Clean Scapes is seeking an experienced Irrigation & Backflow Technician to inspect, troubleshoot, test, maintain, and repair commercial irrigation and backflow systems. This is a hands‑on field position responsible for identifying irrigation issues, diagnosing system problems, performing repairs, checking controllers, and testing backflow prevention assemblies. The ideal candidate has extensive irrigation repair experience, strong troubleshooting abilities, and the required credentials to perform backflow testing. This position requires a minimum of 5 years of irrigation experience and the ability to work independently in the field while accurately identifying and resolving irrigation and backflow issues.

ROLE + RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Irrigation Troubleshooting: Inspect and diagnose commercial irrigation systems to identify leaks, pressure problems, coverage issues, damaged components, controller issues, and other system deficiencies.
  • Irrigation Repairs: Perform irrigation repairs, including troubleshooting and repairing valves, sprinkler heads, piping, controllers, wiring, and other irrigation system components.
  • Backflow Testing: Inspect and test backflow prevention assemblies in accordance with applicable requirements and procedures.
  • Backflow Troubleshooting: Identify issues with backflow prevention assemblies and determine when repairs, adjustments, or additional corrective action are needed.
  • Controller Inspection & Programming: Inspect, troubleshoot, adjust, and program irrigation controllers to ensure systems are operating properly and efficiently.
  • System Inspections: Evaluate irrigation and backflow systems for proper operation and identify deficiencies requiring repair or additional attention.
  • Document Findings: Accurately document testing results, repairs completed, system deficiencies, and recommended corrective actions.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance to help prevent system failures and maintain efficient irrigation operation.
  • Field Communication: Clearly communicate identified issues, completed repairs, and additional repair needs to supervisors, operations teams, and clients when appropriate.
  • Equipment & Safety: Properly maintain tools and equipment and follow company safety procedures and applicable requirements while performing irrigation and backflow work.
Qualifications
EXPERIENCE
  • Preferred 5 years of irrigation experience required.
  • Extensive hands‑on experience troubleshooting and repairing commercial irrigation systems.
  • Experience inspecting and testing backflow prevention assemblies.
  • Strong knowledge of irrigation controllers, valves, sprinkler heads, piping, wiring, and related system components.
  • Ability to independently diagnose irrigation problems and determine appropriate repairs.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to accurately document testing, repairs, and system conditions.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with team members, supervisors, and clients.
  • Commercial landscaping or commercial irrigation experience is highly preferred
LICENSES:
  • TX Driver License - Required
  • TCEQ Licensed Irrigation - Required (or equivalent experience of 5 years)
  • Current certification/license required to perform backflow testing in Texas – Required
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions, including Texas heat and cold.
  • Ability to walk commercial properties and job sites for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and work at ground level while inspecting and repairing irrigation and backflow systems.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds as needed.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, irrigation equipment, and testing equipment.
  • Comfortable performing physical work, including digging and accessing irrigation components when necessary.
  • Ability to safely work around active commercial landscaping operations and outdoor job-site conditions.
