Job summary

CK Construction Group is seeking an ironworker to join our team in Westerville, Ohio. The role involves assembling and installing structural steel, coordinating with foremen, and ensuring safety standards on site.

You will set up hoisting equipment, lift and align steel members, and perform bolting, welding, and finishing tasks. A high school diploma or GED and 4–6 years of ironwork experience or an apprenticeship are required.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an apprenticeship or 4–6 years of ironwork experience.
  • Welding certification or ability to pass D1.1 and D1.3 tests or hold prior certification.

Responsibilities

  • Set up hoisting equipment for lifting steel.
  • Fasten steel members to hoist cables with chain, cable, or rope.
  • Signal hoisting operator to lift and place steel members.
  • Guide members into position with line and hand signals.
  • Pull, push, or pry steel members into approximate position on hoist.
  • Bolt, weld, and align members; verify plum and level.
  • Cut and weld steel to make alterations as needed.

We offer comprehensive design phase and construction phase services under all delivery and contractual methods, including construction management, general contracting, design-build, and design-assist. In addition, we offer self-perform construction services including concrete, steel erection, carpentry, drywall and acoustical ceilings and an in-house AWI Certified mill shop.

Summary

Raises, places, and unites girders, columns and other structural steel members to form completed structures or structures frameworks. Reports to Ironworker Foreman and may take direction from Project Superintendent and Trade Superintendent. Closely interacts with other trade persons.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Sets up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural steel members.
  • Fastens steel members to cable of hoist, using chain, cable, or rope.
  • Signals worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel member.
  • Guides member, using tab line (rope), into position.
  • Pulls, pushes, or pries steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device.
  • Forces members into final position, using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks, and hand tools
  • Aligns holes in member with corresponding holes in previously placed member by drifting drift pins or handle of wrench through holes.
  • Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment of members, using plumb bob and level.
  • Bolts aligned members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted, or welded in place.
  • Cuts and welds steel members to make alterations, using oxyacetylene welding equipment.

  • Must be able to work under stress or pressure.
  • Must be able to keep good balance and have no fear of heights.
  • Must be able to coordinate the movements of eyes, hands, and feet.
  • Must be able to maintain physical strength and stamina.
  • Must be able to climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolding.
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at heights as required.
  • Must be able to push, pull and frequently lift and carry objects weighing 100 pounds or more.
  • Must be able to use arms, hands, and legs fully.
  • Must be able to read and understand measuring tools and levels.
  • Must be able to compare and see differences in the size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects.
Education And Experience

High school diploma or GED. Completion of an apprenticeship program or an equivalent 4-6 years of ironwork experience is required. Must be able to pass the D1.1 and D1.3 structural-welding tests or have attained previous certification.
