Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of ironworking experience, including 5–7 years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and construction specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and fall protection standards.
  • Experience operating cranes, aerial lifts, forklifts, and rigging equipment.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work at heights and in varied weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to travel to project sites as needed.
  • Must pass background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct daily activities of iron workers, welders, connectors, riggers, and related personnel.
  • Plan, coordinate, and assign work to meet milestones and schedules.
  • Review blueprints, structural drawings, engineering specifications, and project plans.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and site safety programs.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses.
  • Inspect work in progress to verify quality standards and contractual specs.
  • Coordinate material deliveries, equipment usage, and crane operations.
  • Monitor productivity and provide coaching and training when needed.
  • Verify proper use and maintenance of PPE and fall protection systems.
  • Identify and resolve field issues and construction challenges.
  • Maintain accurate records including daily reports and safety documentation.
  • Train and mentor new ironworkers and apprentices.
  • Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, engineers, inspectors, and clients.
  • Participate in project planning meetings and scheduling discussions.
  • Ensure installation per drawings, safety practices, and quality craftsmanship.

Job description

Position Summary

The Iron Worker Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating ironworkers engaged in the erection, installation, rigging, welding, reinforcing, and maintenance of structural steel and miscellaneous metals on conveyor and overhead crane installation projects. This position ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with project specifications, company policies, and applicable regulations. This role is a working supervisor position.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Supervise and direct daily activities of iron workers, welders, connectors, riggers, and related personnel.

  • Plan, coordinate, and assign work activities to ensure project milestones and schedules are met.

  • Review blueprints, structural drawings, engineering specifications, and project plans.

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety programs, and site-specific safety requirements.

  • Conduct daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses.

  • Inspect work in progress to verify quality standards and contractual specifications are met.

  • Coordinate material deliveries, equipment usage, and crane operations with project management and subcontractors.

  • Monitor employee productivity and performance and provide coaching, training, and corrective action when necessary.

  • Verify proper use and maintenance of tools, equipment, fall protection systems, and personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Identify and resolve field issues, conflicts, and construction challenges.

  • Maintain accurate records including daily reports, timekeeping, production logs, safety documentation, and incident reports.

  • Train and mentor new ironworkers and apprentices.

  • Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, engineers, inspectors, and clients.

  • Participate in project planning meetings and scheduling discussions.

  • Ensure all worked is installed according to specifications provided in drawings, proper safety practices, and quality craftsmanship.



Required Qualifications


  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Minimum of 10 years of ironworking experience, including 5 to 7 years in a supervisory or lead role.

  • Extensive knowledge of structural steel erection, connecting, rigging, welding, reinforcing steel, and miscellaneous metals installation.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and construction specifications.

  • Strong understanding of OSHA safety requirements and fall protection standards.

  • Experience operating and supervising work involving cranes, aerial lifts, forklifts, and rigging equipment.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work at heights and in varied weather conditions.

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

  • Ability to travel to project sites as needed

  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening



Preferred Qualifications


  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification.

  • NCCER credentials or equivalent industry certifications.

  • CPR and First Aid Certification.

  • Certified Welder credentials (AWS) preferred.

  • Experience with commercial, industrial, bridge, or heavy civil construction projects.



Physical Requirements


  • Frequent standing, climbing, walking, kneeling, crouching, and lifting.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.

  • Ability to climb ladders, access elevated work areas, and work at heights exceeding 100 feet.

  • Although many of our projects are indoors the candidate must have the ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, humidity, and other environmental conditions.

  • Ability to wear required PPE, including harnesses, hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots.
