Job summary

University of Utah Health is seeking a Radiology/Interventional Radiology nurse to provide specialized care before, during and after image-guided procedures. You will assess patients, plan care, and support safe, comfortable outcomes across imaging modalities.

The role requires current Utah RN licensure, interstate compact eligibility if residency changes, and timely eCredential completion (30 days for RQI and 90 days for ALS eCredential). Expect rotating shifts in a demanding 24/7 health system.

Qualifications

• Must maintain Interstate Compact license if residency changes to Utah.
• Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
• Current RQI Healthcare Provider ALS eCredential to be obtained within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive patient assessments and supports radiology and interventional procedures.
• Coordinates patient preparation and recovery workflows, including IV access, medication administration, and post-procedure monitoring.
• Administers and monitors moderate sedation per protocol and responds to adverse events.
• Ensures MRI safety screening, stress testing support, and imaging preparation requirements.
• Maintains documentation and adheres to safety, regulatory, and radiology standards.
• Rotating shifts including weekends, nights, and holidays as required by a 24/7 health system.

Radiology/Interventional Radiology nurses provide specialized nursing care to patients undergoing minimally invasive, image-guided procedures across imaging modalities. This includes the assessment, planning and care of patients undergoing the procedure. These nurses support patients before, during, and after procedures ensuring safety, comfort, and optimal outcomes.

Essential Functions

• Performs comprehensive patient assessments and independently manages routine radiology cases across imaging and IR settings.
• Coordinates patient preparation and recovery workflows, including IV access, medication administration, and post-procedure monitoring.
• Administers and monitors moderate sedation; identifies and manages expected responses and complications within established protocols.
• Manages modality-specific responsibilities, including MRI safety screening, stress testing support, and imaging preparation requirements.
• Administers medications and blood products per protocol; monitors patient response and identifies adverse reactions.
• Anticipates potential complications during procedures and initiates appropriate interventions or escalation.
• Circulates and supports procedures by managing supplies, equipment, and sterile workflows.
• Provides patient and family education regarding procedures, sedation, recovery, and discharge instructions.
• Coordinates handoffs and ensures patient readiness for discharge or transfer.
• Collaborates with anesthesia, physicians, and technologists to support efficient and safe care delivery.
• Serves as an informal resource for staff on routine radiology workflows and procedures.
• Maintains accurate documentation and adheres to safety, regulatory, and radiology-specific standards.
• At the discretion of department operational and patient care needs, this position is required to work rotating schedules, which may include variable hours, weekends, nights, and holidays to meet the staffing and patient care demands of a 24/7 complex health system. Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance during assigned shifts is considered an essential function of the role.

Qualifications

Licenses Required

• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah. Must maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah.
• Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
• Current RQI Healthcare Provider ALS eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The ALS eCredential is to be obtained within 90 days of hire
