HP is seeking an IP attorney to join its global IP team. This role will provide legal advice on intellectual property matters, identify and assess legal risks, and partner with marketing, business, CO organization stakeholders, and cross-functional legal teams.

The successful candidate will bring strong experience in trademark portfolio strategy and management, IP-related transactions and negotiations, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

• Licensed attorney with meaningful trademark experience.
• Typically 4–7 years of IP/related legal experience, preferably in global settings.
• Strong understanding of global trademark/copyright law, portfolio management, and IP ownership risk mitigation.
• Excellent collaboration, communication, and influencing skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage global trademark filings and prosecution.
• Support trademark/copyright disputes including oppositions and enforcement actions.
• Advise business stakeholders on trademark, marketing, and advertising risk and strategy.

Job Summary

HP is seeking an IP attorney to join its global IP team. This role will provide legal advice and strategic counsel on intellectual property matters, identify and assess legal risks, and partner with marketing, business, CO organization stakeholders, and cross-functional legal teams.

The successful candidate will bring strong experience in trademark portfolio strategy and management, IP-related transactions and negotiations, and operational excellence. The role requires independent judgement, effective collaboration, and the ability to support matters that involve multiple teams and business stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage global trademark filings and prosecution
• Manage and support trademark/copyright disputes, including oppositions, enforcement litigations, domain name disputes, online takedown actions, and proactive protection of trademarks and copyrights
• Advise business stakeholders on trademark, marketing, and advertising matters, including strategic recommendations and risk assessments.
• Manage and support IP transactional matters, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating licensing, settlement, evaluation, and collaboration agreements.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on IP-related issues and partner with legal colleagues on matters involving license scope, fields of use, exclusivity, prosecution and enforcement rights, confidentiality, indemnification, ownership, and commercialization rights.
• Manage outside counsel and help assess performance, quality, efficiency, and alignment with legal and business strategy.

Specialty Leadership

• Identify, analyze, and resolve complex IP legal issues using sound judgment and creative problem-solving.
• Lead or contribute to projects involving multiple stakeholders, providing clear written analysis and practical recommendations.
• Stay current on relevant developments through workshops, seminars, and training, and share specialty knowledge with colleagues.
• Contribute to the management of litigation, disputes, and enforcement-related matters.

Required Qualifications

• Licensed attorney with meaningful trademark experience.
• Typically 4-7 years of relevant legal experience in IP, preferably including support for global businesses.
• Strong understanding of global trademark and copyright law, global portfolio management, IP ownership, and related risk mitigation.
• Strong collaboration, communication, and influencing skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior in-house experience at a global company, or law firm experience advising global companies.
• Experience supporting IP-sensitive transactions involving customers, suppliers, partners, competitors, or government-funded projects.
• Experience with marketing, advertising, copyright, enforcement, domain name, or online brand-protection matters.

Impact and Scope

• Supports matters that affect multiple teams and may lead or coordinate project activities.
• Works on complex issues requiring analysis of facts, legal risk, business context, and stakeholder interests.
• Contributes to operational and strategic plans through clear advice, effective legal processes, and professional work product.

The pay range for this role is $116,150 to $182,400 USD annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to United States of America candidates only). Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
