Job description

About the team:

The Mobile Platform Squad is the backbone of SumUp's iOS engineering — we build and maintain the foundation that every iOS feature team relies on to ship fast, confidently, and at scale.

We're a small, high-impact team that sits at the intersection of infrastructure, developer experience, and engineering excellence. Our work isn't visible to merchants directly, but it's felt by every iOS engineer at SumUp every single day — through faster build times, smoother CI/CD pipelines, healthier codebases, and better tooling.

With significant investment in SumUp's mobile products, we're on a mission to empower feature teams to deliver world-class experiences without being slowed down by platform friction. That means building robust internal frameworks, evolving a mature and complex codebase, and acting as a trusted partner to mobile engineers across the organization.

Our engineering culture is built on autonomy, collaboration, and craft. We move with purpose, share knowledge openly, and believe that great platform work is what makes great product work possible. If you're someone who finds deep satisfaction in enabling others to do their best work — you'll feel right at home here.

What you'll do:
  • Develop and maintain internal tools, frameworks, and infrastructure that support the consistency, scalability, and long-term health of SumUp's iOS app
  • Contribute to CI/CD systems and developer tooling initiatives that help feature teams ship with speed and confidence
  • Tackle technical debt and codebase health improvements in a complex, mature codebase — with a focus on simplicity and maintainability
  • Collaborate closely with mobile engineers across squads, acting as a go-to partner for platform questions, reviews, and best practices
  • Take end-to-end ownership of well-scoped platform initiatives — from design and implementation through to delivery and documentation
You will be a great fit for this role if you:
  • Bring 3+ years of professional iOS development experience, with solid hands-on knowledge of Swift and modern iOS frameworks
  • Are experienced with or genuinely excited about CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Fastlane) and developer tooling — you see automation as a superpower
  • Have a solid understanding of testing methodologies, architecture patterns, and design principles, and apply them with pragmatism
  • Are comfortable working outside the boundaries of a typical feature team — you're adaptable, self-directed, and thrive with a mix of structured and ambiguous work
  • Can navigate and improve complex, mature codebases with patience, curiosity, and a long-term mindset
  • Communicate and collaborate clearly across teams — you're comfortable with frequent context switching and know how to bring clarity to technical discussions
Nice to have:
  • Experience with modularized codebases, internal tooling, or Ruby scripting
Why you should join SumUp:
  • Opportunity to work with SumUppers globally on large-scale fintech products used by millions of businesses worldwide, from our Berlin office. This involves an office-first setup
  • We take learning and experimentation seriously with Hack Days every second Friday, and entire global Hack Weeks.
  • Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion: Be part of a workplace that values and promotes diversity, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone's perspectives are respected and embraced
  • A dedicated annual L&D budget of €2,000 for attending conferences and/or advancing your career through further education
  • Enrolment onto our VSOP program: You will own a stake in SumUp’s future success
  • A corporate pension scheme where we match up to 20% of your contributions
  • 30 Days Sabbatical: Enjoy the unique opportunity to take a well-deserved break with our 30 days sabbatical benefit after completing 3 years of employment with SumUp
  • Referral Bonus: Earn additional rewards by referring talented individuals to join the SumUp team
  • Numerous other benefits such as Urban Sports Club subsidy, Kita placement assistance, relocation assistance, subsidised office lunches
