Job summary

The Athletic is seeking an experienced iOS engineer to own key parts of our native app and contribute to core features and architecture. You will collaborate with Design and Product to deliver beautiful, performant UI and maintainable code while iterating quickly and maintaining high quality.

We value familiarity with bleeding-edge Apple features and a passion for sports media. You will work in a cross-functional team, advocating for performance, scalability, and solid engineering practices.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of native iOS development in Swift.
  • Preference for experience in early-stage startups.
  • Consumer-facing product and design instincts with input in product decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Own key aspects of the native iOS app and core features.
  • Build polished UI and architect maintainable code.
  • Write unit and functional tests to ensure app quality.
  • Debug and fix production issues; iterate with design/product teams.
  • Refactor code to improve quality and development velocity.
  • Collaborate in a cross-functional team and suggest improvements.

Job description

  • Our ideal candidate will own key aspects of our native iOS application and contribute to our core features and architecture
  • We’re looking for an experienced engineer who can build beautiful, polished user experiences and architect elegant, maintainable code
  • We prioritize fast iteration without compromising quality
  • Successful candidates keep up-to-date with best practices and have a familiarity with bleeding-edge features from Apple
  • Work with Design and Product teams to build UI that is beautiful, performant, and well-engineered
  • Architect and build the app to optimize for performance, growth, scalability, ease of future development, and code quality
  • Write unit and functional tests to ensure maximum code and app quality
  • Investigate, debug, and fix user-reported production issues
  • Brainstorm new product ideas and improvements alongside the design and product teams
  • Refactor existing code where needed in order to improve quality of life for the other engineers
  • Work within a highly cross-functional team, iterating on process and making your own suggestions for improvements
