Qualifications

• Proven experience building native iOS apps with Swift and SwiftUI.
• Strong understanding of iOS interactions: gestures, animations, transitions and haptics.
• Experience translating evolving designs into production-ready features within design systems.
• Comfort working with modern tooling and async collaboration.
• Familiarity with widgets, Live Activities, App Clips and related platform features.

Our client, an exciting AI-focused consumer services company, is hiring a part-time iOS Engineer to join their team in New York. The successful candidate will sit at the intersection of design and engineering, shaping ideas through critique, iteration and implementation. You’ll have ownership of the iOS experiences you build, working autonomously while collaborating closely with both teams.

Responsibilities

• Enhance the quality and polish of the company's native iOS experience, delivering smooth motion, intuitive gestures, seamless transitions and impactful haptics.

• Collaborate closely with design and engineering teams to transform early concepts into polished, production-ready features.

• Take ownership of the implementation and performance of interaction-rich experiences, ensuring they are responsive, consistent and engaging.

• Develop and refine native iOS features, including Widgets, Live Activities, App Clips and other platform-integrated experiences.

• Work confidently from evolving requirements and early-stage concepts, helping shape and refine solutions throughout the development process.

• Apply thoughtful motion and animation to enhance usability, recognizing when visual effects improve the experience and when simplicity delivers better results.

Skillset

• Proven experience developing high-quality native iOS applications using Swift and SwiftUI.

• Strong understanding of iOS interaction design, including gestures, animations, transitions, haptics, App Clips, Widgets and Live Activities.

• A design-focused engineering mindset with a passion for creating polished, intuitive, and high-performance user experiences.

• Experience translating evolving concepts and designs into refined, production-ready features while working within established design systems.

• Ability to work effectively within existing codebases, improving and extending products without unnecessary refactoring.

• Experience with modern development tools, AI-assisted workflows and asynchronous collaboration.

• Familiarity with technologies such as Kotlin/Jetpack Compose, TypeScript, Postgres (Supabase), Snowflake, AWS and Cloudflare.

• Experience using analytics and observability tools such as Amplitude, Statsig, Sentry and Grafana Cloud is a bonus.

• Previous experience developing media content, or social applications, or publishing personal iOS apps is highly desirable.

• Experience with animation frameworks such as Rive, Lottie or Core Animation, alongside a strong portfolio showcasing exceptional iOS craftsmanship, is an advantage.
