Role Workstyle: Hybrid Worker

Date: 21 Oct 2026

In compliance with applicable laws, HSBC is committed to employing only those who are authorized to work in the US. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. as HSBC will not engage in immigration sponsorship for this position.

Our purpose – Opening up a world of opportunity – explains why we exist. Here at HSBC we use our unique expertise, capabilities, breadth and perspectives to open up new kinds of opportunity for our more than 40 million customers. We’re bringing together the people, ideas and capital that nurture progress and growth, helping to create a better world – for our customers, our people, our investors, our communities and the planet we all share.

As the Investment Counselor you’ll be partnering with Relationship Managers to offer appropriate investment solutions to clients, attracting and enhancing client relationships and profitability. You’ll be responsible for assessing client needs, developing a comprehensive investment strategy, coordinating sales and execution against that strategy, and monitoring performance and appropriateness of the client’s overall investment portfolio. Every day, you’ll build trust with clients and your team in these interactions by learning new concepts and researching information in real-time to provide creative solutions.

What you’ll do
  • Understand client needs: Assess clients’ financial objectives, investment experience, risk appetite, liquidity requirements, time horizons and broader circumstances
  • Develop investment strategies: Create comprehensive, personalized investment strategies aligned with client goals, portfolio requirements and applicable suitability standards
  • Partner with Relationship Managers: Work collaboratively to identify opportunities, deepen existing relationships and attract new clients through high-quality investment advice and service
  • Coordinate execution: Translate agreed strategies into clear, actionable recommendations and coordinate sales and execution across the relevant investment teams and channels
  • Monitor portfolios: Review portfolio performance, asset allocation and ongoing suitability, identifying opportunities, risks or changes in client circumstances that may require action
  • Communicate with confidence: Explain investment concepts, market developments and portfolio decisions clearly to clients and colleagues, adapting your approach to different levels of knowledge and experience
  • Research in real time: Stay informed about markets, products and economic developments, using research and internal expertise to respond effectively and develop creative, practical solutions
  • Build trust: Establish lasting relationships through credible advice, attentive listening, sound judgement and consistent follow-through
  • Manage risk responsibly: Operate within relevant regulatory, conduct and risk frameworks, maintaining accurate records and ensuring recommendations remain appropriate
  • Share knowledge: Contribute to a collaborative team culture by exchanging insights, supporting colleagues and continuously developing your own technical and commercial expertise
What you’ll bring

You’ll bring a strong understanding of investments and portfolio construction, together with the ability to connect technical insight to clients’ real-world objectives. You’ll be comfortable balancing commercial priorities with responsible client outcomes and will demonstrate:

  • Experience in investment counselling, wealth management, portfolio advisory, private banking or a related field
  • Knowledge of investment products, markets, asset allocation and portfolio management principles
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to interpret information and form clear recommendations
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Commercial awareness and confidence identifying opportunities to enhance client relationships
  • Sound judgement, attention to detail and a strong commitment to client suitability and conduct
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and coordinate effectively across teams
  • Curiosity and a continuous-learning mindset, particularly in a fast-moving investment environment
Why the role matters

This role sits at the intersection of investment expertise, client service and relationship management. Your advice will help clients make informed decisions about their financial futures, while your collaboration with colleagues will support stronger, more sustainable relationships. It’s a role where trust is built conversation by conversation—and where informed judgement can make a meaningful difference.

Experience:
  • Proven track record in investment advisory; portfolio management, brokerage, or institutional sales
  • Extensive knowledge of private banking business (onshore and offshore), and competitive and regulatory environment
  • BS/BA degree in Business, Finance or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Series 7, 63, 65 or 66 (in lieu of 63 and 65) licenses required

As an HSBC employee, you will have access to tailored professional development opportunities to ensure you have the right skills for today and tomorrow.
