Job summary

Minnehaha County in Sioux Falls, SD, is seeking an Investigator to perform professional investigative work to assist defense attorneys in the Public Defender’s Office. The role involves interviewing witnesses, examining scenes, and preparing information to strengthen the defense and ensure a thorough investigation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required with at least one year of investigative experience or as a paralegal or related area.
• Knowledge of SD law and law enforcement policies.
• Must complete pre-employment background process.
• Must maintain a valid driver’s license or arrange transportation for field travel.

• Interview witnesses, examine scenes, and review reports to gather information for case defense.
• Build timelines and create visual exhibits to support defense strategies.
• Uncover details, verify information, and challenge unsupported claims to ground cases in facts.
