Job summary

City of Chicago seeks an Investigator for COPA's Investigations Unit to conduct formal inquiries into allegations of misconduct by CPD members. Ideal candidates hold a bachelor’s degree or higher with investigations experience; ABA law school option is acceptable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher plus two years of investigations experience.
• ABA-accredited law school is acceptable alternative.
• Driver's license is required.
• Willingness to work any duty watch.
• Post-graduate degree preferred in public policy, political science, social science, government or law.

Responsibilities

• Interviews complainants, witnesses and department members to gather facts.
• Conduct canvasses at the location of the incident to locate witnesses.
• Obtains and analyzes reports related to the incident, including medical and forensic reports.
• Maintains working knowledge of department rules, policies and general orders.
• Prepares reports of investigation activities conducted to document investigative process.
• Collaborates with attorneys to prepare and present at disciplinary hearings and arbitations.
• Testifies in court, arbitration hearings and before the Police Board as needed.
