Job summary

TEGNA Inc. is seeking an Investigative Producer for the 10 Tampa Bay News team in Tampa, FL. The role focuses on digging deep, holding power to account, and delivering impactful investigations across broadcast, CTV, streaming, and digital platforms.

You will partner with reporters and newsroom leadership to develop, produce, and shape investigative and enterprise stories for all platforms, ensuring accuracy and accountability in every piece.

Responsibilities

• Generate original, unique investigative story ideas through source development, public records, data, and community tips
• Research and verify information using public records, court filings, FOIA/Florida Sunshine Law requests, and databases
• Analyze data and documents to uncover trends, wrongdoing, and stories others miss
• Build and maintain a strong network of sources across government, law enforcement, business, and the community
• Plan and produce long-form investigations, multi-part series, and quick-turn accountability stories
• Write compelling scripts and story structures that make complex topics clear and engaging
• Line up and conduct pre-interviews; prepare reporters for interviews, including confrontational or accountability interviews
• Work with legal and newsroom leadership to make sure stories are accurate, fair, and legally sound
• Maintain detailed documentation and fact-check every element of a story before air
• Track story impact and pursue follow-up reporting
