Job summary

The Intelligence Community Office of the Inspector General is seeking qualified candidates for an excepted service GS-08 position open to the public and current federal employees at GS-08 and one level below. This role supports independent oversight across the 18 IC elements.

Ideal candidates have 1–3 years of relevant experience, a Bachelor's Degree, and the ability to develop investigation plans, conduct investigations, and write reports that substantiate findings.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the ODNI, Intelligence Community, and OIG mission and responsibilities.
  • Work on an investigative team, develop investigation plans, conduct investigations, write substantiating reports.
  • Exercise sound judgment and form objective conclusions/recommendations based on facts and evidence.
  • Analytical and critical thinking to identify needs, requirements and develop recommendations from data.
  • Interpersonal and negotiation skills to interview, brief senior officials, and work independently or in teams.
  • Strong oral and written communication to produce clear, logical reports.
  • 1–3 years of relevant professional experience (including internships/volunteer work).
  • Bachelor's Degree in any relevant discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and examine information relevant to investigations and determine possible leads.
  • Develop investigation plans and coordinate with team members to execute them.
  • Conduct investigations and gather evidence to substantiate findings.
  • Prepare clear, concise investigative reports with actionable recommendations.
  • Brief senior officials on investigation outcomes and status.

Job description

The Intelligence Community Office of the Inspector General is searching for exceptional candidates to join us in fulfilling our mission to identify and prevent fraud, waste, abuse, and misconduct across the 18 elements of the Intelligence Community. We uphold the integrity of the IC and amplify its impact through independent oversight that demands accountability and drives excellence. IC OIG has four offices: Legal Counsel, Audits & Inspections, Investigations & Intake, and Strategy & Support. This is an excepted service GS-08 position open to the public and all current federal employees at the GS-08 and one level below. Current federal employees at the GS-08 and one level below may apply to this position, and if selected will maintain pay set at their current grade and step.

Current federal employees at grade levels GS-07 and below are not eligible for this position and their application will not be forwarded to the hiring manager. All current federal employees that apply for this position must submit their most recent SF-50, Notification of Personal Action (i.e., dated within the last 52 weeks from the closing date of this vacancy announcement) to verify their status of eligibility.

  • Basic ability to examine information, identify problems, uncover root causes, develop findings and leads, and make cogent, actionable recommendations.
  • Interpersonal and negotiation skills, including ability to interview, negotiate, brief senior officials, and work effectively, independently, and in a team or collaborative environment.
  • Oral and written communication skills and ability to produce clear and logical reports.
  • Experience: One to three years relevant professional experience, which may include non paid, internships and volunteer work.
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in any relevant discipline.
