Job summary

Astemo America is seeking an experienced mechanical engineer to contribute to the development of xEV inverter technology under the Engineering Manager. You will work with a global team to design and develop inverter/power control units that meet customer requirements and drive performance across automotive platforms.

The role is hybrid, with 2–3 days on-site in Indiana, and involves collaboration with US and Japan design teams, suppliers, and manufacturing sites.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years designing automotive powertrain components.
  • Experience with 3D CAD creation and 2D drawing creation.
  • Experience with Mechanical CAE (thermal, structural).
  • Understanding electrified vehicle systems and integration.
  • Experience interfacing with customers/suppliers to explain technical documents/drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and/or support technology development for xEV inverter business in Astemo Americas.
  • Plan and manage multiple projects to meet goals within timelines.
  • Translate customer requirements to optimum inverter designs with global teams.
  • Facilitate technical communication between OEM customers and US/Japan teams.
  • Participate in design improvements, validation, and production launches for xEV inverters.
  • Create/oversee technical specifications for product design.
  • Provide on-site support to manufacturing sites during samples and production.
  • Support pricing, quoting, and cost investigations.
  • Prepare technical data documents using industry-standard software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CAD, CAE).
  • Research/state-of-the-art engineering solutions for automotive inverters.

Job description

In this role, under the supervision of the Engineering Manager, you'll support technology development for mechanical electronic controllers at Astemo America. You'll be responsible for understanding customer system requirements and then working with a global engineering team to design/develop an inverter/power control unit to meet customer needs.

This role work plan is hybrid structure (2-3 days on-site depending on public health situation)

Job Responsibilities:
  • Lead and/or support technology development activities for new xEV Inverter business in Astemo Americas
  • Plans and manage activities for multiple projects to ensure goals or objectives are accomplished within a prescribed timeframe.
  • Receive, evaluate, and utilize customer engineering requirements and work with global team to provide optimum inverter design for each application.
  • Facilitate accurate & timely inverter program technical communication between OEM customers to the US / Japan design teams, Astemo manufacturing sites, and suppliers.
  • Participate with Astemo US & Japan Design Engineering organizations in the original design / existing design improvements / performance validation / production launch activities of xEV inverters for various automotive powertrain products applications.
  • Create and/or oversee other technical specifications as needed for product design.
  • Provide as needed on-site support to the internal and external inverter manufacturing sites for various engineering duties during sample and mass production timing.
  • Support various types of product pricing, quoting, and cost investigation activities.
  • Prepare various types of technical data / information documents using industry standard PC based software programs (i.e.: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, CAD, CAE, etc.)
  • Research and develop state-of-the-art engineering design solutions and manufacturing technologies used in automotive inverters.
  • Support product validation testing, prototype build and test, and other engineering deliverables in the development phase of product life cycle.
Qualifications:
Education:

Possess at minimum a BSME

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Minimum 5 years practical work experience designing automotive powertrain components (drive Inverters preferred).
  • Possess experience with 3-D CAD creation and 2-D drawing creation.
  • Possess experience with Mechanical CAE (thermal, structural, etc)
  • Understanding of electrified vehicle system and integration.
  • Experience interfacing with customers and/or suppliers to explain technical documents/drawings/information.
  • High level technical problem-solving skills.
  • High level interpersonal skills to collaborate internally and externally.
  • Experience managing projects from concept through execution.
The ideal candidate is preferred to have the following qualifications:
  • Possess a MSME.
  • 7 yrs. of practical experience and demonstrated accomplishments developing automotive inverters.
  • Highly Proficient with CATIA 3-D CAD creation and 2-D drawing creation.
  • Experience with quotation activities (BOM estimation, etc) for new products.
  • Experience with tolerance stack-ups, GD&T, DFMEA, DRBFM, and DFSS.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects from concept through execution.
  • Fluent in both the English and Japanese languages.
