Job summary

Methodist Le Bonheur seeks an Invasive Cardiovascular Technician to join the cath lab team. Under supervision, you will assist physicians during diagnostic, interventional, or EP procedures and provide essential support across scrub, monitor, and circulate roles.

You will educate patients and families about procedures, document care, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance while maintaining equipment and supplies for high‑quality care.

Qualifications

  • Technical degree or diploma in Cardiovascular Technology required.
  • Cardiovascular Technology degree preferred (Associates).
  • RN/EMT certificates may be considered.
  • High emphasis on patient safety and procedural accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physician during cardiovascular procedures (diagnostic, interventional, EP).
  • Scrub, monitor, or circulate during procedures.
  • On-call availability for emergencies.
  • Educate patient/family about the procedure.
  • Document care in the patient’s medical record.
  • Monitor regulatory compliance and quality standards.
  • Prepare and maintain cath lab equipment and supplies.
  • Perform 12-lead EKGs and monitor rhythms.
  • Respond to changes in patient condition and initiate emergency protocols.

A Brief Overview

Under direct supervision, performs work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to perform procedures on patients undergoing cardiac diagnostic, Cardiac interventional or Electrophysiology procedures. Provides technical support in the diagnosis and treatment of heart and vascular disease. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

What you will do
  • Under direct supervision, assists physician/surgeon during cardiovascular diagnostic, cardiac interventional or Electrophysiology procedures.
  • In rotation with the multi-disciplinary team, performs the responsibilities of scrub, monitor, or circulate during surgical procedures.
  • Must be available for on-call if required in designated area and respond within the designated time frame for emergency procedures.
  • Educates the patient and/or patient’s family about the procedure before, during, and after the procedure.
  • Provides instructions and information on post-procedure limitations and restrictions.
  • Observes, evaluates, and reports changes in the patient’s condition to the RN or physician.
  • Initiates emergency procedures and protocols as needed.
  • Administers contrast media and medications within the scope of limitations and consistent with medication administration practices and policies.
  • Performs a variety of testing to assist with diagnosis and treatment.
  • Collects, labels, processes, stores, and transports specimens in accordance with procedures.
  • Performs 12-lead EKGs, identifies cardiac rhythms, and recognizes lethal arrythmias.
  • Documents care delivered in the patient’s medical record in accordance with policy and procedure for the department.
  • Responsible for monitoring and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, compliance activities, and policies and procedures.
  • Provides support in the preparation, care, maintenance, and availability of cath lab or electrophysiology lab supplies and equipment.
  • Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proficient and certified in basic and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) or pediatric advanced life support (PALS) if working with children is preferred, OR certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Must demonstrate the ability & desire to learn and practice clinical competencies of the Invasive Cardio Tech.
  • Ability to effectively relate and communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and maintain control of workflow.
Supervision Provided by this Position

There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this position.

Physical Demands

The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion. Must have good balance and coordination. The physical requirements of this position are: heavy work - exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently. Will be required to wear lead apron for extended periods of time. The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading. Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact. Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials. Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
