Job summary

Qualifications

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide English-to-Spanish and Spanish-to-English interpretation and translation services to the Hispanic community. This position is considered essential and must be available to report to work during an emergency or catastrophic event. The incumbent must obtain medical interpreter certification upon hire.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Education:�� Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
• Experience: Six months of experience providing formal interpretation and translation services between English and a second language.� Formal interpretation services may include documented work as a volunteer interpreter for a nonprofit, human service or faith-based organization.

Notes:

• 1. Candidates may substitute additional experience interpreting and translating between English and a second language on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
• 2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Linguist or Language Capability classifications or Linguist or Language Capability specialty codes in the Linguistic field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience using Google Workspace and Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.
• Experience demonstrating strong written and oral communication skills.
• Experience managing time effectively to meet deadlines and assigned schedules.
• Current certification as a medical interpreter.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
