Job summary

IDEA Public Schools is seeking an Interventionist Teacher to support 3rd‑8th grade students in reading and/or math, closing gaps through intensive, evidence-based instruction.

This grant-funded role requires collaboration with general education staff, weekly progress monitoring, and delivery of specific interventions aligned with IDEA’s AP for All initiative.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year institution (required).
  • Experience in a K-12 classroom setting is strongly preferred.
  • State certification preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Description

Role Mission: The IDEA Interventionist Teacher intervenes with small groups of students who have identified gaps of 2 or more years in Reading and/or Math with the goal of closing that gap by 2 years in just one school year. The IDEA interventionist plays a crucial part in ensuring that all students are prepared to successfully participate in IDEA’s AP for All initiative. This is an approach to academic intervention used to provide systematic, and appropriately intensive assistance to children who are at risk for or already underperforming as compared to appropriate grade- or age-level standards. Intervention teachers will use universal screening, Direct Instruction intervention, frequent progress monitoring, and increasingly intensive research-based instruction and interventions for students who continue to have difficulty.

This position is grant-funded with Title I Part A funds. This is a grant-funded position and funding may be extended. A grant-funded position has no guarantee of ongoing and indefinite employment. All duties and responsibilities tied to this position are allowable and allocable to the grant. The employee will work solely (100%) on allowable activities outlined in the grant program.

Compensation
  • The starting teacher salary for 0 years of experience is $59,500. This role is eligible for various stipends based on certifications, credentials, and campus leadership ranging from $500-$4,000 each. We also offer additional performance-based compensation.   • Service Record Requirement: To ensure compliance with Texas Education Code 21.4031 and accurately verify creditable service, candidates selected for this position must submit official electronic service records from previous educational employers. Service records will be used to validate professional experience and determine creditable years of service and compensation, as applicable.
  • Additional hourly compensation is provided for after school tutoring or Saturday school as assigned.

  • Paid Family Leave: Eligible staff may receive up to 8 weeks of paid leave for the birth or adoption of a child, based on their tenure with the organization and caregiver designation.
  • Tuition Reimbursement: Staff members may apply for up to 50% of tuition paid toward a qualifying degree program, up to $5,250 maximum per year subject to manager discretion and budget availability.
  • Employer-Paid Mental/Behavioral Health: 5 face-to-face counseling sessions within a year, unlimited 24/7 telephonic counseling, and other work-life services available at no cost.
  • Other benefits include dental and vision plans, disability, life insurance, parenting benefits, flexible spending account options, generous vacation time, referral bonuses, professional development, and a 403(b) plan. IDEA may offer a relocation allowance to defray the cost of moving for this role, if applicable.
Qualifications
  • High level of content‑area proficiency in Math and/or ELA as evidenced by teaching certification, field of study, or work‑experience
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four‑year educational institution (required)
  • Experience: Experience in a K-12 classroom setting (strongly preferred)
  • Licenses or Certifications: State certification preferred but not required

Responsibilities
  • Teach Critical Student Intervention (CSI) instruction utilizing on model programming for small groups consisting of students in 3rd-8th grade that are academically at risk in reading and/or math to include students in general education, 504, Response to Intervention, Special Education, and English Language
  • Teach district approved research‑based intervention to small groups consisting of students in Kinder‑2nd grade (dependent on campus assignment) that are academically at risk in reading and/or math to include student in general education, 504, Response to Intervention, Special Education, and English Language Learners.
  • Teach district approved research‑based intervention to small groups consisting of students that are in 9th-12th grade (dependent on campus assignment) academically at risk to graduate to include student in general education, 504, Response to Intervention, Special Education, and English Language Learners
  • Work closely with general education teachers in order to coordinate the support they are providing to students requiring intervention.
  • Implement state learning standards and IDEA curricula and assessments to meet ambitious academic expectations
  • Learn, master and deliver relevant content and grade level curriculum, core content objectives and texts
  • Submit weekly lesson plans two weeks in advance for feedback
  • Implement formal and informal assessments to track each individual student’s progress and learning, needs, adjust lesson plans accordingly and update gradebook weekly
  • Communicate students’ progress with student and family on a weekly basis
  • Effective facilitation and personal use of technology as a communication and educational tool to improve student achievement and manage work related tasks.
  • Implement a clear and consistent behavior management system that aligns to campus‑wide initiatives, while developing students’ character and sense of community in the classroom
  • Help shape and develop a school wide culture that fosters a productive and enthusiastic learning environment for each student
  • Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with students and families based on trust, understanding and respect for the communities in which they identify.
  • Host necessary tutoring sessions to meet all students’ needs
  • Participate in weekly manager check‑ins, grade‑level meetings, before and after‑school duties, and school‑wide meetings and functions
  • Engage in summer and year‑long district, school and personal learning and development
  • Minimum of 40+ hours spent at school per week
  • Additional responsibilities may include: after‑school tutoring or Saturday school and are based on the needs of our scholars
