Interventionist, Multi‑Tiered System of Support (MTSS)/ Exchange/ EOY (26-27 SY)

The Multi‑Tiered System of Support Interventionist, under moderate supervision, performs instructional work with limited decision‑making discretion, providing direct intervention and monitoring progress of students who need support in literacy and math. This position assists with the implementation of a systematic school‑wide approach to tiered intervention within a multi‑tiered system of support (MTSS). The employee performs school‑based work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the principal.

Pay / Status: Certified Schedule/Full‑time, 10 months

Essential Functions
  • Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Adhere to the North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards.
  • Assist school administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct; develop classroom behavior rules and procedures; maintain order fairly and justly.
  • Coordinate and facilitate academic interventions that align with the standard treatment protocol for students needing support to meet course standards.
  • Identify students for supplemental or intensive intervention by collaborating with staff and using student data.
  • Deliver research‑based strategies and techniques to students individually or in groups.
  • Assist teachers and instructional staff in addressing student learning using the MTSS framework; provide guidance on strategies, tools, and techniques.
  • Develop, document, and maintain ongoing intervention plans in the intervention management system.
  • Maintain progress by monitoring data on student responses to intervention plans; adjust plans as needed.
  • Monitor the overall effectiveness of each academic intervention.
  • Collaborate with school leaders to address implementation fidelity and barriers to success.
  • Meet with parents/guardians to discuss progress, determine priorities and resources, and encourage involvement; confer with counselors and administrators to resolve challenges.
  • Prepare and implement enrichment programs and remediation.
  • Attend Professional Learning Community (PLC) and staff meetings for data analysis and instructional planning.
  • Participate in professional development focused on acquiring and improving skills and knowledge.
  • Perform safety functions and drills to maintain a safe instructional environment; take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Perform related work as assigned or required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum principles, standards, and expectations in the assigned area and MTSS framework.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of how to utilize appropriate data and information to make instructional decisions for students.
  • Knowledge and understanding of various learning styles, curriculum development and program evaluation, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with computers and software including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment, or software related to instructional practice and business needs.
  • Ability to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures into daily operations.
  • Effective communication skills across all settings.
  • Strong judgment, problem‑solving, and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school system business.
  • Initiative, independent work, and sound judgment.
  • Ability to thrive in a deadline‑driven, rapidly changing team environment.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching literacy or math in a K‑12 classroom required.
  • Valid NC Teaching certification or ability to obtain one, with at least three years of teaching experience in literacy or math, required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
Special Requirements
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license or ability to provide personal transportation.
  • Travel to district buildings and professional meetings.
