Job summary

Wellstar Health System is seeking an experienced Interventional Radiology Tech to support IR, vascular and neuro procedures and participate in on-call rotations. You will set up imaging equipment, position patients, and work closely with radiologists, surgeons and other specialists to deliver high-quality patient care.

Ideal candidates have 4+ years of interventional neuro experience or equivalent cardiology exposure, with strong skills in sterile technique, radiation safety and patient

• ARRT certifications in CVI, Radiography or related areas required upon hire.
• Minimum 4 years interventional neuro experience or 2 years cardiology with neuro experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs interventional, vascular and neuro procedures with independent judgment.
• Sets up equipment, positions patient, and ensures imaging service quality.
• Maintains sterile technique, preps patient and supplies, and documents CPT codes.
• Works with radiologists, vascular surgeons, cardiologists and neurosurgeons.
• May participate in on-call rotations and departmental communications.

Job Summary:

Functions under the direction of the Clinical Coordinator, Chief Tech, or Dept. Manager. The interventional special procedures technologist assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams provided by the department according to department procedures. The technologist has the knowledge and ability to safely perform diagnostic and interventional procedures. He/she is responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of the equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. The technologist is able to independently perform job functions. He/she sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patient for the procedure. The interventional tech 4 functions independently in the Interventional Radiology (IR), Vascular Hybrid, and Neuro-interventional setting and participate in the interventional call rotation.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Clinical Skills:

• Completion of VI competencies
• Able to use critical thinking skills
• Work in conjunction with radiologists/ vascular surgeons/ cardiologists/neurosurgeons
• Preps the patient for procedure
• Demonstrates and understands sterile technique
• Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for procedure
• Enters appropriate charges for supplies and procedure CPT Codes

Job Responsibilities:

• Must be flexible with hours to meet departmental needs
• Able to work scheduled and On-Call hours
• Knows existing lines of communication and authority
• Handles communications properly
• Introduces self to patient and/or guardian utilizing proper scripting ie. AIDET
• Transports patients as needed
• Provides privacy and comfort for patient/customers
• Assists with maintenance of departmental records, Joint Commission standards, State and Federal Regulations and performance Improvement.
• Completes necessary paperwork
• Answers departmental phone using proper scripting
• Maintains stock levels and outdates
• Maintain current License and BLS/ACLS certifications
• Assist in in-service/training for other medical staff as appropriate
• Works as a team with other VI staff to obtain the best possible outcome.
• Performs any other duties as needed when asked by leadership

Quality and Patient Safety:

• Verifies patient ID using 2 patient identifiers, i.e. Armband, DOB, verbal identification
• Verifies Written Order and Consent, seeks clarification if order or consent unclear.
• Uses and understands preprocedural verification/ time out completion
• Understands and complies with site/ side marking when indicated

Patient Education:

• Responsible for patient, family/support system education
• Provide post procedural home care instructions as needed
• Performs other duties as assigned

Required Minimum Education:

• High School Diploma General or GED General or Accredited Program Radiologic Technology

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):

All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

• BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor
• ARRT-CV - ARRT Cardio Vascular Interven or ARRT-R - ARRT Radiography or ARRT-VI - ARRT Vascular Intervention Rad or RCIS - Registered CVI Specialist or RCES - Reg Cardiac Electrophysi Spec

Additional License(s) and Certification(s):

Additional certification in Cardiovascular or Vascular Intervention Upon Hire Preferred

Required Minimum Experience:

Minimum 4 years minimum interventional neuro experience Required or Minimum 2 years cardiology with 2 year of combined neuro experience. Required

Competency in all aspects of IR, Vascular, and Neuro Interventional procedures, patient positioning, exposure factors and radiation protection.
