Job description

Named one of the top 100 Hospitals in the world, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is looking for an Interventional Radiology Technical Director. The Director will collaborate with physicians and staff to provide top‑notch care in the Boston Longwood area, expanding services into a new inpatient building and incorporating new technology and research.

Job Summary

The Director reports to the senior operations director of radiology and is guided on clinical practice by the modality section chief. The Director oversees departmental process improvements and metrics, drives Epic standardization, collaborates with DFCI on projects, and manages the overall financial statement for the department. The role actively engages in operations and recruitment efforts for frontline staff, ensuring the overall function of the area and quality of work performed by assigned staff.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Represent the division on all technical leadership initiatives and maintain relationships with other managers to coordinate department‑wide initiatives.
  • Act as the primary representative of the division when interfacing with hospital department, physicians, and nursing.
  • Influence and motivate staff behaviors in accordance with department policies and code of conduct, informing and training the team to ensure morale and effectiveness.
  • Provide direction, development, and supervision of staff, including interviewing, hiring, and, when necessary, termination.
  • Ensure staff observance of hospital policy, department policy, and applicable radiation and MRI safety practices and policies.
  • Coordinate and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment used in the division, ensuring utilization aligns with procedure volume and making adjustments as necessary.
  • Maintain, update, and revise the division’s policy and procedure manual and ACR and all quality certifications where applicable.
  • Participate in department leadership team to ensure technical excellence, high quality and safety in patient care, efficiency of service, and a strong QA/QI program.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects through Lean initiatives and leadership.
  • Direct and support managers in their functional area responsibilities and undertake employment actions such as hiring, termination, corrective action, and performance reviews.

Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Registration with the American Registry of Rad Tech required.
  • License, certification, or registry in the discipline of Radiology.
  • Certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS) required; new hires must provide BLS certification within 30 days.
  • 3‑5 years of related work experience and 1‑3 years of supervisory/management experience.
  • Advanced technical computer skills specific to the functional area and related systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • RAML (Radiology MA License) for CT and/or General DX.
  • ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) for Ultrasound.
  • ARMRIT or CAMRT for MRI.

Age‑Based Competencies

Employees must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Neonatal (Birth to 6 months), Middle Age (30–60 years), Elderly (60+ years).

Physical Nature of the Job

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move throughout the hospital campus.

Pay Range

$160,000.00–$180,000.00 USD (annual base salary). Actual compensation is determined based on seniority, education, training, relevant experience, certifications, geographic location, and job responsibilities.
