Overview

At Ochsner Health, your work helps make a difference for patients and teams across the organization. This role safely prepares for and scrubs into interventional procedures in collaboration with interventional radiologists and nursing, holds advanced certification in Vascular Interventional Radiography, and provides care in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures and protocols.

Location: Ochsner Medical Center - Baton Rouge

Responsibilities

• Specifically, prepares for and scrubs into interventional procedures in collaboration with interventional radiologists and nursing.

• Operates imaging equipment to complete procedures according to protocol and ensures diagnostic-quality images.

• Verifies physician orders and procedures for accuracy; utilizes radiology information systems to facilitate care.

• Explains procedures to patients to ensure understanding and obtain appropriate permissions.

• Performs quality control procedures in compliance with regulatory standards and notifies or remediates as warranted.

• Assists in departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment, maintenance, etc.).

• Adapts communication and service delivery to the patient population, respecting privacy and providing clear explanations.

• Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education

Required – Completion of an approved radiologic technology program.

Work Experience

Required – None. Preferred – Interventional radiology experience.

Certifications

Required – Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or ARRT registry eligible with registration within 90 days of employment and temporary state license required; current unrestricted license in the state of practice; Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.

Preferred – Advanced certification in Vascular Interventional Radiology.

• Effective verbal and written communication; ability to present information clearly and professionally.

• Strong interpersonal skills.

Job Duties

• Verifies physician orders and procedures to ensure accuracy.

• Utilizes radiology information systems to facilitate care.

• Explains procedures to patients to ensure understanding.

• Operates imaging equipment independently to complete procedures per protocol.

• Reviews patient images before transmission to ensure diagnostic quality.

• Completes timely quality control procedures in accordance with regulatory standards and notifies/remediates as warranted.

• Assists in departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment, maintenance, etc.).

• Adapts behavior and communication to the patient population, respecting privacy and obtaining permissions.

• Performs other related duties as required.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly. May involve exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue. Works in a healthcare setting with potential exposure to hazardous materials and communicable diseases.
