Unit: Interventional Radiology

About the Position

Brand new, state-of-the-art IR department expansion launched in June 2024! We have the latest equipment and perform procedures ranging from simple to high‑end treatments. This is an excellent opportunity to expand your skills and advance your career.

Shift: Full‑time days – 10‑hour shifts, 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

On‑call: 7–8 call shifts per month – one shift per week and one weekend shift per month; 30‑minute radius.

Experience required: Interventional Radiology experience.

Job Summary

The Interventional Radiology Technologist, under general supervision of a Radiologist, performs interventional radiology (IR) procedures on ambulatory and hospital patients as requested by a physician or other licensed provider for the diagnosis of disease and injury in accordance with established protocols.

Essential Functions of the Role
  • Perform high‑quality IR procedures according to exam protocol and in a timely manner; maintain production and quality by following established standards.
  • Use AIDET to communicate with patients, identify service requirements, ensure correct exam, and establish rapport; instruct and communicate with patients and families regarding the test and assess tolerance.
  • Prepare patient and area for the procedure by positioning the patient, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment into the specified position, and setting exposure factors.
  • Protect patients and employees by adhering to safety requirements, infection‑control, drug and radiation policies, protocols, and techniques, and by using proper sterile techniques and hand hygiene.
  • Maintain equipment and work area to meet quality and cleanliness standards; work with engineers and physicists to ensure optimal operational capabilities and report issues to management; assist in maintaining supplies inventory.
  • Ensure departmental safety by screening people according to approved policies and procedures.
  • Obtain, verify, and maintain all relevant documentation (requisition, chart, patient history, pregnancy status, shielding precautions, consent forms, policies and procedures).
  • Maintain medical imaging records in the appropriate system and according to departmental policies and standards for timely interpretation.

  • Explain the procedure clearly and put patients at ease.
  • Provide services in a timely, accurate, and cost‑efficient manner while complying with system and regulatory standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform tasks autonomously without routine oversight.
  • Maintain a calm and helpful attitude under stress and take appropriate steps to resolve issues.
  • Administer first aid and use the emergency cart.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by limiting wait times, providing courteous service, remaining professional, reviewing patient satisfaction scores, and developing action plans when required.
  • Demonstrate and maintain current knowledge, continued education, and skills appropriate for newborn, pediatric, young adult, adult, and geriatric care.
  • Serve as a preceptor by providing training to new team members and on new services and initiatives.
  • Take call if required.

Certification / Licence / Registration
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited program
  • Experience: IR tech experience preferably in a busy lab; neuro and trauma experience preferred
  • BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer
  • ARRT‑R Radiography (ARRT‑R) required
  • Must be licensed by the State of Texas Medical Board as a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT)
  • Must be certified within two (2) years of hire date in one of the following:
    • ARRT Cardiac Interventional Radiography (ARRT‑CI)
    • ARRT Interventional Radiography (ARRT‑VI)
    • ARRT Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography (ARRT‑CV)
