Qualifications

  • Fellowship in Vascular Neurology or Neurocritical Care.
  • Credentialing at multiple Piedmont facilities and willingness to travel between sites.

Job description

Interventional Neurology

Piedmont Healthcare is seeking a Board-Certified/Board-Eligible Endovascular Neurologist/Interventional Neurologist to join its Cerebrovascular and Endovascular Neurosurgery Program, part of Piedmont Enterprise, the health system employed physician group. This physician will serve as the clinical leader of the neuroendovascular program at [Assigned Hospital], overseeing thrombectomy services and cerebrovascular care while benefiting from the support of a collaborative, system-wide stroke network. The position combines local leadership and autonomy with shared call coverage, standardized protocols, and access to advanced cerebrovascular expertise across Piedmont's network.

Clinical Responsibilities
Neuroendovascular Procedures
  • Perform mechanical thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke due to large vessel occlusion.
  • Perform diagnostic cerebral angiography and interpret cervicocerebral vascular imaging.
  • Perform additional neuroendovascular procedures within training and site capabilities, including:
  • Extracranial and intracranial stenting/angioplasty
  • Middle meningeal artery embolization
  • Venous sinus interventions
  • Participate in complex cerebrovascular procedures at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital (PAH), including aneurysm coiling, flow diversion, and embolization procedures.
  • Maintain procedural volumes and outcomes consistent with CAST, SVIN, and SNIS standards.
  • Stroke and Cerebrovascular Care
  • Provide acute stroke consultation and thrombolytic decision-making, including telestroke evaluations when appropriate.
  • Participate in transfer-center consultations and patient selection for neurointerventional procedures.
  • Manage peri- and post-procedural care in collaboration with critical care and neurocritical care teams.
  • Provide outpatient stroke and cerebrovascular follow-up care.
Responsibilities
  • Supporting and growing thrombectomy capabilities at the assigned hospital.
  • Ensuring angiography suite readiness and call-team reliability.
  • Collaborating with Piedmont Neuroscience Service Line leadership and System Stroke Program leadership, local stroke program leadership, emergency departments, and EMS partners to optimize stroke care metrics.
  • Supporting stroke center accreditation and regulatory readiness.
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives, case reviews, and morbidity and mortality conferences.
  • Providing education and outreach to referring providers, EMS agencies, and community partners.
  • Collaborate in system-wide governance, protocol development, and peer review activities.
  • Support standardized stroke pathways, imaging protocols, and transfer criteria across the network.
  • Provide scheduled cross-coverage at additional Piedmont sites.
  • Participate in quality reporting and Get with The Guidelines performance reviews.
  • Contribute to the continued growth of thrombectomy services throughout the health system.
Academic and Research Opportunities
  • Teach and supervise residents and fellows rotating through neuroendovascular and vascular neurology services.
  • Participate in clinical research and trials, including investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored studies.
Qualifications
Required
  • MD or DO with eligibility for unrestricted Georgia medical licensure.
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited Neurology residency.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Neurology.
  • Completion of a CAST-accredited (or equivalent) Neuroendovascular Surgery/Neurointerventional fellowship.
  • Fellowship training in Vascular Neurology or Neurocritical Care.
  • Board certification in Vascular Neurology and/or Neurocritical Care.
  • Demonstrated experience and outcomes supporting independent privileges in mechanical thrombectomy and diagnostic cerebral angiography.
  • Eligibility for credentialing at multiple Piedmont facilities.
  • Willingness to travel between program sites as needed.
Preferred
  • Experience practicing within a hub-and-spoke or multi-site stroke network.
  • Experience with stroke center certification and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Telestroke and remote stroke evaluation experience.
  • Clinical research involvement and interest in trial enrollment.
