Job Description

Title: Intervention Specialist

Reports To: Principal/Director of Student Services

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Position Summary: Plan, deliver, and evaluate specially designed instruction for students with disabilities. The position develops and implements Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), monitors student progress, collaborates with families and school personnel, supports positive student behavior and independence, maintains required records, and participates in the delivery of compliant, inclusive educational services.

Essential Functions

• Assess student performance and progress on an ongoing basis and use the results to plan, differentiate, and adjust instruction.
• Administer and interpret classroom-based, criterion-referenced, and other assessments as directed by the district and Director of Student Services.
• Develop, implement, monitor, and update IEPs in accordance with applicable requirements, district policies, and established procedures.
• Prepare clear and timely lesson plans and instructional materials aligned with students’ IEP goals, accommodations, modifications, and instructional needs.
• Use evidence-based instructional strategies, assistive technology, instructional materials, and accommodations appropriate to students’ ages, abilities, developmental levels, and learning needs.
• Establish and maintain a safe, supportive, inclusive, and structured learning environment with clear expectations and positive behavior-support strategies.
• Provide instruction and support for students who require assistance with communication, mobility, personal care, health-related needs, or other activities identified in their IEPs or health plans.
• Collaborate regularly with general education teachers, related-service providers, intervention specialists, paraprofessionals, administrators, families, and other appropriate personnel.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records related to student progress, IEP implementation, assessments, services, communication, and compliance.
• Communicate regularly and professionally with parents and guardians regarding student progress, needs, services, and educational programming.
• Participate in IEP meetings, staff meetings, professional learning, committees, school activities, and other assigned responsibilities.
• Use sound judgment, professionalism, cultural responsiveness, and discretion when interacting with students, families, staff, and community members.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist with the selection, preparation, and appropriate use of instructional materials, technology, adaptive equipment, and other resources.
• Provide guidance and support to student teachers, practicum students, paraprofessionals, and other assigned personnel, as appropriate.
• Supervise and provide direction to assigned paraprofessionals or aides in accordance with district procedures.
• Maintain a professional appearance consistent with district policy and the responsibilities of the position.
• Follow all district safety, health, emergency, security, and student-support procedures.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal or Director of Student Services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Appropriate Ohio teaching certificate/license.
• Alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate.

Working Conditions

• Potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, tissues, communicable illnesses, and other materials encountered in a school environment; appropriate safety procedures and protective equipment must be used as required.
• Frequent interaction with students who may require behavioral, sensory, communication, mobility, personal-care, or other individualized supports.
• Occasional interaction with parents, guardians, staff, or community members who may be upset, distressed, or confrontational.
• Regular use of vision, hearing, speech, and manual dexterity to provide instruction, monitor student needs, communicate, operate technology, and complete records.
• Regular periods of sitting, standing, walking, reaching, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, and moving throughout the classroom or school building.
• Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of supplies, instructional materials, adaptive equipment, or other items weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to attend IEP meetings, professional-development activities, conferences, or other education-related events outside the regular school day when required by the district and scheduled under reasonable terms.

Employment Information

• Length of Employment: One-year limited contract.
