INTERVENTION PARAEDUCATOR

LOCATION: Wy'East Middle School

REPORTS TO: Instructor/Building Principal

DEPARTMENT: Federal Programs

Hours / Work Times

4 Hours Per Day (12:05 p.m. - 4:05 p.m.)

190 Days Per Year (180 student days/10 holidays)

This position will remain open until a qualified applicant is selected. The earliest date a recommendation for hire may be submitted is after09/14/26.

Position Contingent Upon Grant Funding

Must meet Paraeducator Employment Requirements as follows*:

  • Be at least eighteen (18) years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent;AND
  • Must meet one or more of the following:
    • Have received a passing score of 455 or higher on the Education Testing Service ParaPro Assessment (ETS test/PRAXIS);or
    • Hold an Associate Degree or higher from an accredited college or university;or
    • Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university;or
    • Have completed a Paraeducator Apprenticeship Program (program must be registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council).

Upon hire, new paraeducators will be required to complete state required training offered through Evergreen School District.

Position Duration: Permanent

Classification Group: Paraeducator Class II

Salary Placement: New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the classification salary range. However, employees who have verified prior years of service of similar occupational experience may receive experience credit towards salary step placement.

SUMMARY STATEMENT

Under the supervision of the building Principal, the Intervention Paraeducator will assist in the delivery of instructional activities, working closely with students on an individual as well as a small group basis. They will collaborate with administrators, teachers and counselors in the delivery of a tutoring program to assist students to reach and maintain academic and behavioral success.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assist the Academic Interventionist and/or Classroom Teacher in providing social and/or academic interventions to elementary and/or secondary students as follows:

  • Communicate effectively with students.
  • Assist in providing one-to-one and group instruction to students according to instructional goals.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining a learning environment to accelerate academic and social-emotional learning.
  • Utilize the principles and processes of student-centered instruction in providing support for academic and social outcomes.
  • Utilize foundational academic and social-emotional concepts to provide effective student support.
  • Maintain accurate data on student progress.
  • Assist in administering and scoring formal and informal tests.
  • Implement behavioral management strategies using the emphasis and techniques that have been outlined by the instructor and intervention plan.
  • Assist in organizing and preparing a variety of instructional materials.
  • Assist in State/Federal recordkeeping as necessary.
  • Attend various training sessions as necessary so as to maintain an up-to-date understanding of the program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • AA degree or higher, the equivalent of two years of college, or has passed the ETS ParaPro Assessment (also known as the Praxis) with a score of 461 or greater.
  • Basic typing/keyboarding.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working with students in academic areas preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and parents.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and supervise students.
  • Must possess personal characteristics of flexibility, initiative, cooperativeness, and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability or willingness to learn computer skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate the office equipment as listed above.
