MC: Language Services – Full Time, Varied Shift

Job Summary

The Interpreter/Translator provides competent and culturally sensitive Spanish in‑person, telephone, and video‑remote interpretation for patients and their families/caregivers with Limited English Proficiency (LEP). Services are delivered at all sites licensed under Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC). The role requires maintaining knowledge of state and federal regulations, documenting interpretations in the medical record per guidelines, and adhering to the Code of Professional Ethics and Standards of Practice developed by the California Healthcare Interpreters Association. The interpreter must deliver excellent customer service, support safe patient care, and may perform other duties as needed.

Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required. Associate’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum two years of experience as an interpreter in a healthcare setting using in‑person, telephone, and video‑remote interpretation.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Proficient in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Basic knowledge of cultural folk medicine.
  • Strong customer service background.
  • Bi‑lingual and bi‑cultural in English and Spanish.
  • Keyboard at 40 words per minute.
  • Legible reading and writing, professional English speaking ability.
  • Proficiency with computer, printer, and software programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot basic office equipment.
  • Effective communication with others, calm demeanor under pressure, collaboration, and acceptance of direction.
  • Critical thinking, multi‑tasking, organization, prioritization, and independent work with minimal supervision.
  • Color discrimination as required, adequate hearing for general conversation, and adequate vision for computer screens and written documents.
Licensures and Certifications
  • Proof of training in an accredited interpreter program required.
  • National Translation Accreditation Language Competency or California State Interpreter Certification preferred.
