Job summary

Cayuse Holdings is seeking a Tongan Interpreter to provide interpretation within the State of California across education, legal, medical, environmental, and social services sectors. The interpreter will work under the Deputy Program Manager and must pass background checks.

Travel to different locations for in-person interpretation is required and on-call availability is expected. The role requires medical interpreting training and certifications, plus strong communication and problem-solving

Qualifications

  • Must have high school or higher education with relevant medical interpreting training.
  • Experience with state department, refugees, FDA, health and human services, legal and housing context is preferred.
  • Ability to pass a background check and work independently or on a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft and Adobe toolsets is required.

Job description

Overview

The Tongan Interpreter will provide interpretation within the State of California to reach individuals with a language barrier. Interpretation will consist of but not limited to Education, legal, Medical, Environmental, and Social Services, etc.

This position performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Cayuse.

Responsibilities
  • Accurately interpreting spoken work situations like lectures, conversations, and meetings.
  • Utilizing technology to transcribe spoken English in some settings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications – Here’s What You Need
  • High School/BA Degree/ or equivalent in years of experience
  • Medical Interpreting Training School
  • Foreign Service Institute
  • Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters.
  • 40/60hr medical training.
  • Experience with State Department experience/ refugees, FDA, Health & Human services, Medical, Legal, Housing Authority etc.
  • Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.
  • Must possess problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to respond effectively to customers with a sense of urgency.
  • Proficient in Microsoft and Adobe toolsets, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Acrobat, etc.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to handle and manage multiple tasks at any one time.
  • Ability to forge new relationships, individual and teaming in nature.
  • Must be a Self-starter, that can work independently and as part of a team.
Reports to

Deputy Program Manager

Working Conditions
  • Professional environment.
  • Must be able to be on-call. Interpreter will be notified within 48 hours of potential jobs.
  • Must be able to travel to different locations to interpret in-person.
  • Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties extended periods of time.
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed to meet the demands of this position.
  • Must be able to establish a productive and professional workspace.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time looking at computer screen.
  • May be asked to work a flexible schedule which may include holidays.
  • May be asked to travel for business or professional development purposes.
  • May be asked to work hours outside of normal business hours.
