Job summary

Lexington Health, Inc. seeks an Interpreter Services Manager to oversee LEP and Hearing Impaired interactions, coordinating interpretation and sight-translation for patients and staff.

You will ensure clear communication during procedures, discharge instructions, and education, while advancing program quality. The role requires a Bachelor’s in Spanish or health-related field, plus 4 years of healthcare interpreting experience and a Certified Hispanic Medical Interpreter credential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish or a health related field.
  • 4 Years of experience in interpreting for healthcare agencies or teaching Spanish.
  • Certified Hispanic Medical Interpreter certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees interpreter services operations with accurate meaning using medical and general terminology.
  • Coordinates translation of patient materials and educational content for LEP patients.
  • Collaborates with all departments to provide LEP patient follow-up and billing support.
  • Develops annual operating and capital budgets and monitors expenditures.
  • Manages contracts with outsourced interpretive companies and maintains up-to-date criteria.
  • Maintains the LEP plan and ensures program compliance.
  • Generates monthly reports on interpreting encounters and contributes to program improvement.
  • Acts as a cultural mediator to enhance staff-patient communication.
  • Recruits, orients, and evaluates interpreter staff and staffing levels.

Job Summary

Manages interpreter services for Limited English Proficiency (LEP) and Hearing Impaired clients for effective communication and care. This includes but not limited to the interpretation or coordination of interpretative services for patients, visitors and staff as needed as well as sight-translation of relevant materials to enhance patients' and families' comprehension of medical procedures, treatment, discharge instructions, patient and family education, and follow-up care.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish or a Health Related Field
Minimum Years of Experience: 4 Years of Experience in Interpreting for Healthcare Agencies and/or Teaching Spanish
Substitutable Education & Experience: None
Required Certifications/Licensure: Qualified as a Certified Hispanic Medical Interpreter
Required Training: None

Essential Functions
  • Oversees all operations involving interpreter services with accuracy of meaning through the use of medical, business, and general terminology.
  • Coordinates translation services of pertinent materials for patients and families, such as written information regarding relevant services, pre-operative, post-operative, discharge instructions, patient and family education, and follow-up care materials.
  • Works with all LMC departments to provide follow-up with LEP patients (e.g., follow up billing and collections.
  • Develops annual operational and capital budgets; plans for future programs and monitors monthly expenditures.
  • Manages contracts and reports with outsource interpretive companies to keep contracts and employee criteria up-to date.
  • Maintains the LMC LEP (limited English proficiency) plan and ensures program is compliant.
  • Runs monthly reports in Service Hub of interpreting encounters, to include relevant data such as location, duration, and purpose; supports and participates in the continuous assessment and improvement of the interpretation services program.
  • Serves as a cultural mediator, as necessary and when appropriate, to enhance communication between staff and patients or family members.
  • Recruits, orients, and evaluates interpreter staff and monitor staffing levels
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manages on-call schedule for interpreters.
  • Establishes competency level of in house staff who interpret and ensures on-going continuing education training and opportunities.
  • Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury-accident to Supervisor on duty.
  • Follows the Code of Ethics.
  • Participates in hospital-wide quality improvement in relation to interpretation services.
  • Conforms to Service Expectations as defined in the Service Expectations Policy.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by supervision.
