POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

We are preparing for short‑term projects throughout the United States during 2026 where your language skills will be used in support of joint military training exercises supporting US and foreign service members. The working conditions are a combination of classroom instruction and outdoor training sessions. There will be a few days when the work environment will be austere while supporting the military during the field training exercises.

  • Classroom and outdoor exercises are crowded and loud.
  • Field training is done outside.
  • Exposed to all types of weather conditions, heat/cold/dry/wet.
  • May encounter natural hazards such as insects or animals.
  • Field training events could include live fire conditions that are loud.
  • Required to wear vest/helmet/body armor at all time.
  • Interpreting could be performed during day, night or rotating shifts.
  • You will be required to stand and walk alongside the military participants.
  • Mobility and agility are mandatory as terrain could be uneven.
  • There may be times you have to bend, stoop, crawl, or squat.
  • You could be required to lift and carry up to 35 pounds while standing and walking.
  • Visual and hearing ability is important; ensures interpreting accuracy and surroundings awareness.

The following is likely to be a 14–17 day period of austere conditions at some point during the project when you will be working side by side and living with the military during the field training exercises.

  • Training in an outdoor environment.
  • While working closely with the military, you may have limited access to showers and laundry.
  • Sleeping in an outdoor environment on the ground with sleeping bags. This will be with the military.
  • Meals will include prepackaged food (MRE) Meals Ready to Eat. There will be no specific diet accommodations available.

The rest of the time may be within lodging on military installations. You may have limited access to anything outside of the military installations. During the exercise we will have a project management team on site with you to ensure your needs are met and if any emergencies were to arise.

Here are the current requirements for the position.

  • Must be a US citizen and eligible to work within the US.
  • Must pass a basic background check and interview.
  • Willing to accept the austere conditions of the event.
  • Willing to take a DOT physical for the event.
  • Willing to validate your Mandarin and English language skills via third party assessment.
  • Willing to accept a pay range of $31 – $33 an hour, plus overtime for time over 40 hours a week.

This is a great way to gain some experience working as a simultaneous interpreter.

Are you looking to use the skills you already possess in support of the US Military?
