Job summary

TGS is seeking an Interpretation Geoscientist to provide geological and geophysical expertise for seismic imaging and velocity model building projects. You will integrate seismic interpretation with geology, geophysics, well, and petrophysical data to address complex subsurface challenges and support client teams.

You will lead technical reviews, mentor junior geoscientists, share workflows, and ensure quality through interpretation-based QC.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Geology, Geophysics, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in seismic interpretation, exploration geophysics, subsurface characterization, or a related discipline.
• Experience supporting velocity model building and seismic imaging projects.
• Experience presenting technical work to clients and multidisciplinary teams.

• Integrate seismic, geological, well, and petrophysical data to develop horizons, faults, salt geometries, and structural frameworks.
• Review imaging results, perform interpretation-based quality control, and recommend updates to improve model accuracy and image quality.
• Provide technical guidance to clients and multidisciplinary project teams and lead technical reviews, presentations, and project discussions.
• Share technical knowledge, mentor geoscientists, improve workflows, and comply with company HSEQ requirements.

The Interpretation Geoscientist provides geological and geophysical expertise for seismic imaging and velocity model building projects. Working closely with interpretation, imaging, and client teams, this role helps develop geologically sound models and improve imaging results.

The successful candidate will integrate seismic interpretation with geological, geophysical, well, and petrophysical data to address complex subsurface challenges.

Required Qualifications

Education

• Master’s degree in Geology, Geophysics, Earth Sciences, or a related field.

Experience

• At least 8 years of experience in seismic interpretation, exploration geophysics, subsurface characterization, or a related discipline.
• Experience supporting velocity model building and seismic imaging projects.
• Experience integrating geological and geophysical data into exploration or development workflows.
• Experience presenting technical work to clients and multidisciplinary teams.

Core Competencies

• Strong knowledge of structural geology, seismic stratigraphy, depositional systems, basin evolution, and salt tectonics.
• Advanced horizon, fault, and salt interpretation skills.
• Ability to integrate seismic, geological, well, and petrophysical data.
• Working knowledge of seismic imaging, velocity model building, model validation, and interpretation-based quality control.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to develop practical solutions to complex subsurface challenges.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to a range of audiences.
• Ability to work directly with clients, lead technical discussions, collaborate across disciplines, and mentor junior geoscientists.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with tomography, Full Waveform Inversion (FWI), depth imaging, and quality control.
• Experience in subsalt, salt‑influenced, or deepwater settings, including the Gulf of America, Brazil Pre‑Salt, West Africa, the Eastern Mediterranean, or comparable basins.
• Proficiency with Petrel, Kingdom, DUG Insight, or similar seismic interpretation software.
• Familiarity with HampsonRussell, ArcGIS, or comparable applications.
• Familiarity with machine learning, emerging interpretation technologies, and digital subsurface workflows.
