Job summary

Baird’s Securities Processing internship in downtown Milwaukee offers a hands-on introduction to safeguarding client assets through receipt, transfer, registration, and maintenance of physical and electronic securities.

You will assist in processing and clearing stock, review related documentation, and learn how securities move through the financial system while gaining exposure to brokerage operations, risk management, and regulatory requirements in a collaborative team setting.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics or related field.
  • Anticipated graduation date of May 2028 or later.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to work effectively in a team.
  • Proactive, with initiative to take on extra work.
  • Detail oriented with good organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong client service, critical thinking and troubleshooting abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in processing and clearing physical stock as well as book entry shares.
  • Support the receipt, review and maintenance of physical stock certificates and related documentation.
  • Learn how securities move through the financial system and interact with transfer agents and custodians.
  • Research and resolve exceptions while ensuring accurate and efficient processing of transactions.
  • Gain exposure to brokerage operations, risk management practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in daily team meetings and collaborate across the firm to support excellent client service.

About The Role

Baird’s Operations Department ("Ops") is the best kept secret in the financial services industry and plays a critical role to the success and growth or the firm. We partner with the different business and functions within Baird with the goal of driving efficiencies and reducing risk to the firm. The Securities Processing team plays an important role in safeguarding client assets through the receipt, transfer, registration, and maintenance of physical and electronic securities. The team works closely with branches, transfer agents, custodians and other Operations teams to support accurate and timely processing of securities transactions.

About The Role

Baird’s Operations Department ("Ops") is the best kept secret in the financial services industry and plays a critical role to the success and growth or the firm. We partner with the different business and functions within Baird with the goal of driving efficiencies and reducing risk to the firm. The Securities Processing team plays an important role in safeguarding client assets through the receipt, transfer, registration, and maintenance of physical and electronic securities. The team works closely with branches, transfer agents, custodians and other Operations teams to support accurate and timely processing of securities transactions. This internship requires working full time during the summer, 37.5-40 hours per week, Monday‑Friday and work part time during the school semesters, 15-20 hours per week, in our downtown Milwaukee, WI office. We are seeking a local student who can start January 2027 or earlier.
