Job summary

Eaton's Power Systems Engineering Internship is a 12-week paid program designed to provide opportunities to participants who demonstrate ethics, values, creativity and performance we expect from our employees. During the internship, you’ll work on projects with measurable impact and be mentored by leaders within the division.

As an intern, you will perform engineering studies, power quality analysis, equipment startup, installation, maintenance, repair and training.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program in Electrical or Electrical/Computer Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum overall GPA 2.8.
  • U.S. work authorization required; employer will not sponsor visas.
  • Must be geographically flexible to relocate within the United States.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Provide applied engineering and technical consultation for multiple customers in power systems studies and power quality analysis.
  • Support a wide portfolio of clients from project start through final presentation and training.
  • Interpret specs and inquiries to design technical proposals and power system recommendations.
  • Collaborate with Eaton sales team and end-users to deliver high-quality support and solutions.

What you’ll do:
Position Overview:

The Electrical Engineering Services and Systems global service team is one of the largest and most experienced teams of power system professionals in the industry. As one of our engineers, you'll help to provide solutions to our customers' power problems at every stage of the power system.

The Power Systems Engineering Internship is designed to provide opportunities to participants who demonstrate the same high level of ethics, values, creativity and performance we expect from our employees. During the 12-week paid internship, participants will work on projects that have a measurable impact on our business and will be coached and mentored by leaders within the division. Eaton's Power Systems Engineers deliver professional engineering, design, and analysis services. As one of our engineers, you’ll help our clients’ electrical systems operate more reliably, efficiently and safely. As part of our team, you’ll help share our experience and technical know-how in the areas of power systems studies, power quality analysis, electrical design and training.

In this internship, you will:
  • Provide applied engineering and technical consultation for multiple customers in power systems studies, power quality analysis, equipment startup, installation, maintenance, repair and training.
  • Support wide portfolio of clients from project start through final on-site presentation and training.
  • Interpret specs and customer inquiries to design technical proposals and power system recommendations for customers.
  • Operate in an entrepreneurial environment with the mission of providing high quality support and solutions with a key emphasis placed on motivated lead times and sustained relationships with the Eaton sales team and end-users.

This internship will help prepare you for both technical and future leadership roles at Eaton. As an intern, you will be provided with a structured training and development curriculum; a blend of instructor-led, virtual classrooms, eLearning courses, and on-the-job training provided by expert mentors and team members to assist you in developing your career.

Qualifications:
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Actively enrolled or received a degree in a bachelor’s or master’s program in engineering with a focus in Electrical or Electrical/Computer Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.8
  • Eaton will not consider applicants for employment immigration sponsorship or support for this position. This means that Eaton will not support any CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT plans, F-1 to H-1B, H-1B cap registration, O-1, E-3, TN status, I-485 job portability, etc.
  • Must be geographically flexible to relocate within the United States
  • Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Overall cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher
  • Coursework in three phase circuit analysis, power systems analysis or electrical machines
  • Experience with engineering software (AutoCAD, MATLAB, SKM, EasyPower, and/or ETAP)
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within campus and/or the community
Position Criteria:
  • Location will be in one of five major regions within the United States (i.e. Central, Northeast, Southeast, Gulf and West regions); typically in or near a major U.S. city
  • Transportation to and from the worksite, and for incidental business travel, is the responsibility of the intern.
  • Strong analytical, computer, writing and presentation skills
  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, squat, reach to or below shoulder level, lift, carry, push, pull, and use hands to handle and feel. The employee is frequently required to climb and reach above shoulder level. The employee is regularly required to lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to push/pull greater than 50 pounds with assistance
  • This role may include up to 25% travel within a local region as determined by the Assignment Manager
  • Successfully complete and maintain compliance with Eaton’s safety program and policy; This includes role-applicable portions of the EESS Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) program and any required annual re-certifications thereafter.
  • The summer internship culminates with a formal presentation where participants showcase their success stories to leaders of the organization and receive feedback on their performance.
