Job summary

McGough invites motivated students to join our Internship/Co-op as Field Engineer Interns. You’ll gain hands-on exposure to construction operations, collaborating with seasoned pros on high-profile projects. This role emphasizes learning, safety, and on-site problem solving while expanding your professional network.

You’ll participate in layouts, deliveries, documentation, and weekly planning, developing communication and teamwork skills essential for a career in construction operations.

Qualifications

  • Sophomore, junior, or senior pursuing Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; able to convey ideas clearly.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and work on-site with field teams.

Responsibilities

  • Assist on-site Superintendent and Foreman with a variety of tasks.
  • Track quantities and verify records on site.
  • Help track materials inventory and ensure correct placement.
  • Learn building layout and basic site surveys.
  • Coordinate deliveries of materials and equipment.
  • Assist with RFI drafting and documentation.

What You'll Be Doing:

As a Field Engineer Intern at McGough, you'll be where the action happens, gaining hands-on experience that goes far beyond the textbook. You'll learn the essential principles and processes of building construction—a perfect gateway to launching your career in Field Operations, giving you the foundation to step into a superintendent role. Your journey with us will include:

  • Team Up with the Pros: Assist our on-site Superintendent and Foreman with a variety of tasks.
  • Track & Verify Quantities: Gain hands-on experience with quantity tracking and verification.
  • Material Master: Help track materials inventory and make sure things are where they need to be.
  • Layout & Survey: Learn the ropes of building layout and site surveys. This is on some projects.
  • Tool Time: Help organize, store, and maintain project tools (no, we won't make you hold a wrench all day!).
  • Constructability Checks: Working on Pre-Install Meetings, First Work Inspections, Inspections, documenting issues/observations on QC issues. Learning basic constructability checks and balances.
  • Coordinate Deliveries: Be the go-to for managing material and equipment deliveries.
  • RFI Writing: Assist with Requests for Information (you'll get the hang of the paperwork, we promise).
  • Subcontractor Superstar: Work with our subcontractors and help manage tasks. Learning specific trade work in helping organize schedule, tasks, etc.
  • Weekly Meetings: Join in on weekly coordination meetings and get a front-row seat to project planning.
  • Document Pro: Help maintain as-builts and keep all documents organized. Working in CPM’s that are common within the Construction industry (Procore, CmiC, SharePoint, etc.)
  • Safety First: Participate in safety audits and meetings to ensure a safe worksite.
  • Daily Logs: Keep daily entries accurate and up to date.
  • Learning basic communication skills. Meeting notes, email construction, Teams meetings, etc. Personal growth in soft skills.

Office & Travel:

Office: Various jobsites and/or corporate/regional office.

Travel: Be ready for some travel to project sites, events, and other company activities, it's all part of the experience!

In alignment with our commitment to pay transparency, the base salary range for this position is an hourly rate of $25.00 - $27.00, excluding fringe benefits or potential bonuses. If you join McGough, your final base salary will be determined by several factors, including geography, location, skills, education, and experience. Furthermore, we place significant value on pay equity among our current team members as part of any final job offer.

McGough offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package for full-time employees. For Interns, we offer medical, retirement, PTO and holiday pay.
