Job summary

Yankee Ridge Multilingual School in Urbana, IL, seeks an After School Programming Teacher for the Yankee Ridge Multilingual Elementary. This hourly role supports after-school programming, with three days a week sessions (Sept 8, 2026 – Apr 29, 2027), contingent on grant funding.

Responsibilities

• Prepare creative and engaging lessons for day-to-day instruction and enrichment activities.
• Implement lessons in a developmentally appropriate classroom environment to meet educational goals.
• Create a welcoming classroom environment for all students.
• Collaborate with support staff to develop procedures, schedules, and activities.
• Plan activities inside and outside the classroom exposing children to diverse learning experiences.
• Monitor student progress in math and reading and document performance.
• Take daily attendance and complete required documentation.
• Review materials and requisition classroom supplies.
• Work with the Coordinator to encourage family involvement in education.
• Supervise students as assigned by the program coordinator.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by Leadership Team.

TITLE: After School Programming Teacher (Multiple Positions Available)

LOCATION: Yankee Ridge Multilingual Elementary

SUPERVISOR: This position reports directly to the program coordinator, building administration, and district director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily:

• Prepare creative and engaging lessons for day to day instruction and enrichment activities.
• Implement lessons in a developmentally appropriate classroom environment that assists students assigned to the classroom with achieving specific educational goals.
• Create a classroom environment that is welcoming to all students.
• Collaborate with support staff assigned to the classroom to develop general classroom procedures, goals, schedules, behavioral expectations and classroom activities for students.
• Plan and implement activities inside and outside of the classroom that expose a child to a variety of learning experiences and broaden the child's perspective.
• Administer progress monitoring screeners to determine student growth in math and reading and documenting student performance.
• Take daily attendance and complete other required documentation as assigned.
• Review, develop, and requisition materials for the classroom.
• Work in partnership with the Coordinator to plan and encourage family involvement in the education of their children.
• Supervise students as assigned by the program coordinator.
• Perform any and all additional duties as assigned by the Leadership Team.

Minimal Educational Requirements:

• Bachelors' Degree from an accredited college or university, with certifications and endorsements as applicable.

Experience:

• Classroom experience preferred.
• Prior experience working in an After School Program, preferred but not required.
• Internal applicants only.

Licenses/Credentials:

• Valid Illinois Teaching License with the appropriate endorsement.

Other skills and abilities:

• Ability to assess children and knowledge of childhood development.
• Ability to communicate and work effectively on a collaborative team.
• Ability to effectively work with students with a history of behavioral, social/emotional and/or developmental disabilities.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and responses.

Terms of Employment:

• Daily hours TBD, three days a week (September 8, 2026 - April 29, 2027)
• Position is for after school programming only when the program is in session.
• Attendance at an orientation meeting is expected prior to the start of this program.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel.

NOTE:

• This position is not part of the collective bargaining unit and is not administrative in nature.
• Position contingent upon grant funding.
• Preference given to internal building staff and will be open to district staff to help fill positions.
• $32/hour
