Job description

PetVet Care Centers’ VRCC Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital is seeking an Internal Medicine – Registered Veterinary Technician to join our team.

Position Overview

Supports hospital operations by providing dedicated quality veterinary care and exceptional service to patients and clients. Responsibilities include determining animal requirements, conducting examinations and diagnostic procedures, assisting during surgery and operations, providing nursing care, assisting with feeding and patient care, maintaining medical supplies and equipment, overseeing triage and discharge, and maintaining patient medical records.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine animal requirements by conducting examinations, interviews, care plan reviews, medicine tests, and diagnostic imaging.
  • Care for patients by taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medications, drugs and vaccines, and bandaging wounds.
  • Support patient examinations and operations by assembling supplies, securing patients to examination rooms, and restraining patients as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmacology, equipment usage, and drug administration.
  • Obtain and verify medications.
  • Ensure patients have food and water, keep rooms, cages, and equipment clean, and observe for clinical signs.
  • Fill prescriptions and administer medications, including documentation, logging, and security of controlled drugs.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, healthy and humane environment by sterilizing, sanitizing, discharging, storing supplies, verifying shelf life and complying with regulations.
  • Maintain medical records by documenting conditions, reactions, and changes; update database accurately and promptly.
  • Communicate with pet owners about patient status.
  • Maintain equipment by following instructions, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance and calling for repairs.
  • Maintain inventory, place orders for supplies, verify receipts.
  • Update knowledge by engaging in educational opportunities and reading professional journals.
  • Release pets to owners ensuring cleanliness and grooming.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Manager or practice.
Qualifications (Required)
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One or more years of experience with veterinary appointments, surgeries and nursing care for hospitalized and critical patients.
  • Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) as required by state.
