As Alcatraz scales rapidly and navigates complex global privacy regulations while engaging in strategic customer and vendor relationships, a dedicated and experienced Internal General Counsel is essential to drive internally the legal processes.

Key responsibilities

• Negotiate and close customer contracts efficiently, balancing legal risk with commercial momentum.
• Serve as the primary legal contact for the sales process, partnering with GTM teams to remove friction.
• Review, redline, and negotiate vendor agreements to ensure operational clarity and favorable terms.

Privacy & Data Governance

• Ensure ongoing compliance with global privacy regulations including GDPR and CCPA.
• Maintain and update Data Processing Addendums (DPA) and internal privacy policies.
• Monitor regulatory changes and ensure customer documentation stays aligned with global standards.

Process Management & Legal Strategy

• Manage the internal legal process, including legal ticket queues and response timelines.
• Legal AI tool implementation and management.
• Establish scalable legal frameworks, playbooks, and template fallback positions.
• Advise cross-functional stakeholders on risk exposure and contractual obligations to enable sound business decisions.
• Maintain legal hygiene by managing corporate records and signing procedures.

Qualifications

Required

• 10+ years of progressive legal experience, preferably in high-growth or tech environments with a focus on privacy and trade negotiations. California privacy experience is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. employment and commercial law, as well as global privacy frameworks.
• Experience supporting multiple functions including GTM, Engineering, and Operations.
• Ability to influence senior stakeholders and provide clear guidance on complex legal matters.

Preferred

• Based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
• Experience in venture-backed or scaling organizations.
