Job summary

The North Dakota Retirement and Investment Office (NDRIO) in Bismarck seeks an Internal Auditor to strengthen risk management, controls, and accountability across agency activities. You will examine processes, advise leadership, and coordinate with external auditors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, business administration, finance, IT, investments, or related field.
  • Associate's degree with 3+ years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination accepted.

Summary Of Work
What You'll Do:
  • Plan and perform audits of agency activities, from routine to complex
  • Assess risk, develop audit scope, and evaluate internal controls and compliance with policies and laws.
  • Prepare and present audit reports with findings, recommendations, and follow-up evaluations.
  • Provide advisory services on new systems, business processes, and initiatives to ensure effective risk management.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and consultants, assisting with documentation, testing, and reviews.
  • Contribute to risk assessments and participate in committees, task forces, and special projects.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and 1+ years of relevant work experience in accounting, auditing, business administration, finance, information technology, investments, or a closely related field.
  • An Associate's degree and three years of relevant work experience may substitute for the above requirements; or a comparable combination of education and relevant work experience that provides equivalent knowledge and skills will also be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two or more years of internal auditing, external auditing, accounting, compliance, or risk management experience.
  • Experience auditing investments, pension plans, governmental entities, or financial institutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing reports and presenting results to management or governing boards.
  • Ability to build collaborative working relationships while maintaining independence and objectivity.

Compensation & Location

Hiring Salary Range: $65,000 - $80,000 annually, dependent upon experience

Location: NDRIO is located in Bismarck, ND. Upon successful completion of a probationary period, the selected candidate may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with the option to work remotely 1-2 days per week, while working at least 3 days onsite at our Bismarck office.
