Job summary

Micron Technology is seeking a Yield Technology Equipment Engineer Intern for the Boise, ID area. You will learn about optical, x-ray, profile, and eBeam inspection tools used in next-generation memory solutions and help develop new solutions to improve tool performance and efficiency.

The role offers collaboration with process control, data science, yield analysis, and metrology teams, with emphasis on problem-solving, in-line signals, and creative improvements in a semiconductor defect

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Materials Science & Engineering or related field; must be current student and not graduate before Sept 2027.
  • Internship designed to develop critical thinking and problem-solving while analyzing process anomalies and correlations.
  • Experience or interest in AI tools and metrology for defect analysis and process control.

Responsibilities

  • Review experimental process flows for defect anomalies and quarantining tools out of control.
  • Identify and raise awareness of process anomalies and drive improvement today.
  • Use inline process signals to drive process improvements.
  • Apply understanding of AI agents, Claude Code, LLMs to enhance efficiency.
  • Collaborate with process control, data science, yield analysis, and metrology teams.
  • Develop techniques to identify relevant process issues and improve measurement strategies.

As a Yield Technology Equipment Engineer Intern at Micron, you will learn about the optical, x-ray, profile, and eBeam equipment used in innovative solutions to detect sources of variation in next generation memory solutions. The goal of this internship is to become familiar with in line and lab inspection equipment to help develop new solutions for efficiency and tool performance. We need engineers who are passionate about detecting problems and making changes for the better and seek out innovative ways in how to do things. We will assign you a project to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Your research tasks are designed to optimize and improve predictability of Metrology and RDA's operations. Through this project we will provide the opportunity for you to collaborate with engineers across process control, data science, yield analysis, and metrology. At the end of the period, we want the cohort to have a deep understanding of the processes, detection capabilities, and measurement strategies used in today’s semiconductor defect analysis department. We will enable this with groundbreaking strategies and next generation equipment. This is opportunity to start in the spring and goes through the summer. This position will be located in Boise, ID.

Responsibilities
  • Reviewing and analyzing experimental process flows looking for defect anomalies and quarantining process tools that are out of control
  • Possess a continuous improvement process (CIP) demeanor, looking for ways to improve operations, and how to make a difference today! We want our intern to recognize, identify, and raise awareness of process anomalies with the motivation of "who needs to know this now!"
  • We want our intern to use inline process signals to drive process improvements.
  • Strong understanding of Aritificial Intelligence (AI) agents, Claude Code, Large Language Models, and how to utilize and optimize their efficiency.
  • Work with new detection tools and inspection strategies to localize and identify process issues with the mentality of "how can this improve the model?"
  • Build and improve upon techniques and identify new ways to use existing tools in order to identify relevant process issues.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or related field. Must be a current student, must not graduate before September 2027.
  • We need an intern drawn to creative problem solving and innovative solutions.
  • We need someone who will investigate process anomalies, root cause analysis, data manipulation, and correlations.
  • The shown ability to innovate and drive effective change in an energizing environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience running Scanning Electron Microscope and/or Focused Ion Beam tools.
  • Proactive and passionate about learning (training and coursework).
  • Excellent technical, communication, and analytical skills.
