Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Adaptive Recreation, Education, Exercise Science, OT/PT, Social Work, or related field.
  • Intermediate alpine skiing ability (minimum level 6); must ski and load lifts independently.
  • Experience working or volunteering in service roles or with individuals with disabilities preferred.
  • One-on-one experience with people with disabilities.
  • Able to follow directions and work independently.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass NSCD background check for driving.

Responsibilities

  • Complete an intern project, case study, and Inservice aligned with educational goals and approved by the intern supervisor.
  • Support the coordination and delivery of NSCD programs.
  • Assist with registration, customer service, and volunteer training.
  • Attend required NSCD continuing education sessions.
  • Contribute to NSCD special events and fundraising efforts.
  • Drive company vehicles as needed.
  • Follow all safety procedures and use appropriate equipment.

Position Summary:

Winter interns gain hands-on experience with NSCD programs and procedures, assisting in the delivery of adaptive Alpine and Nordic ski lessons. Training and responsibilities align with NCTRC guidelines where applicable. The internship runs from early January to mid-April, with a minimum 14-week commitment at 32–45 hours per week, including weekends and holidays. Most programming takes place at Winter Park Resort, with additional opportunities in Grand County and the Denver Metro area. Housing is provided with at $300 monthly stipend.

Internship Duties:

Intern responsibilities are carried out independently, under supervision, or in coordination with staff. Additional duties may be assigned.

  • Complete an intern project, case study, and Inservice aligned with educational goals and approved by the intern supervisor
  • Support the coordination and delivery of programs
  • Assist with registration, customer service, and volunteer training
  • Attend required NSCD continuing education sessions
  • Contribute to NSCD special events and fundraising efforts
  • Drive company vehicles, including trailers and oversized vehicles, as needed
  • Follow all safety procedures and use appropriate equipment
  • Assist with various activities such as alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, snowboarding, ski bike, sit ski, etc.
  • Engage daily with participants of all ages and a range of physical, mental, and behavioral disabilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:
  • Pursuing a degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Adaptive Recreation, Education, Exercise Science, OT/ PT, Social Work, or related field.

Physical Requirements:
  • Able to work outdoors at high altitude in varying weather and terrain conditions.
  • Physically capable of assisting with adaptive equipment, transfers, and positioning.
  • Able to lift at least 75 lbs. with assistance.
  • Sufficient dexterity, hearing, and vision to operate computers, phones, and interact with participants.
  • Able to manage multiple high-priority tasks in fast-paced, noisy environments.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and eligible to drive company vehicles, including 16-passenger vans, tower vehicles, snowmobiles, and lifts
