NBCUniversal Dallas/Fort Worth is offering an internship in the Newsroom designed for students eager to gain real-world experience in reporting, production, and digital supply. You will participate in planning, assist with assignments, and contribute to web articles and social content across our TV news operations.

The role emphasizes hands-on experience in multiple newsroom areas, collaboration with reporters, editors, and producers, and exposure to SEO, Google Trends, and digital storytelling.

Qualifications

  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program during the length of the program and provide documentation confirming degree progress.
  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits)
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship by NBCUniversal
  • Must be willing to work at the station in Fort Worth, Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in daily planning meetings and contribute ideas for news programming based on NBC DFW News Strategy.
  • Be present in the control room during the news program to observe communication among producers and staff.
  • Use websites and social media tools to monitor and report news, find sources and leads for stories.
  • Write assigned segments, including digital newscasts.
  • Make beat checks and enter current/future assignments into the system.
  • Make and answer phone calls, coordinate guests for newscasts.
  • Write articles for the website using AP Style and formatting.
  • Work with reporters and meteorologists to prepare web articles.
  • Cut video from newscasts and post on social media and our website/app.
  • Generate ideas for stories with focus on Google Trends, SEO strategy and current events.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions for new content and platforms.
  • Keep up with social media trends and pitch newsroom ideas.

NBC DFW Internships provide students with real world experience and exposure to working in the television news industry. Internships at NBC DFW are paid and do not require course credit.

NBC Dallas/Fort Worth is looking for a team player who is looking to take on the experiences in allfacetsof the Newsroom.This is an opportunity to havehands-onexperience in every capacity of assigning, gathering,telling,and producing news stories.

During the academicyear,you will havehands-onexperiencein thefollowing areas: asareporter,asaproducer, on the assignmentdesk, andproducing social videos.This will allow youtohave the opportunity to be part of each of our newsroom teams.

You will be assigned to one of those areas based on our business needs, yourexperience,and yourinterests.

  • Participate in daily planning meetings. Contribute ideas for news programming based on the NBC DFW News Strategy.
  • Be present inthe controlroom duringthe newsprogram toobservecommunication among the producer,director,and production personnel.
  • Usewebsitesand social media tools tomonitorand report news, find sources andleadsforstories.Monitor mainstream and social media sites for story ideas and competitive intelligence.
  • Write assigned segments, which may include digital newscasts
  • Make beat checks and enter current and future news assignments into system
  • Make and answer phone calls
  • Help coordinate guests for newscasts
  • Writingarticles for our website using AP Style and formatting
  • Work with reporters,meteorologistsand other members of the news team to prepare web articles
  • Cut video from newscasts and add proper metadata to post them on social media and our website/app
  • Generate ideas for stories and articles, with a focus on Google Trends, SEOstrategyand current events
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions fornew ideasfor content and platforms
  • Keep up on social media trends and pitch ideas on how our newsroom can incorporatenew ideasinto our strategy
Qualifications
  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the length of the program and be able to provide documentation to confirm your degree progress
  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits)
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship by NBCUniversal
  • Must be willing to work at the station in Fort Worth, Texas.
Desired Characteristics
  • Pursuing a major in Journalism, Communications, or similar subject
  • Familiarity with Premiere and Photoshop
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and creative skills
  • Exceptional project management, organizational and presentation skills
  • Experience using TikTok, Facebook, Instagram
  • Prior use of WordPress preferred but notrequired
  • Interest in the television,streamingor digital industries
  • Knowledge of AP Style and newswriting
  • Bilingual skillsa plus– Spanish/English
