Job summary

Dominion Energy invites a highly motivated engineering student to join our Transmission Engineering team for a summer internship in Cayce, SC. You will gain hands-on exposure to surveying, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the electric transmission system.

You will work with engineers on real-world projects, develop technical skills, and learn Dominion Energy’s safety and reliability standards while supporting the grid and utility operations.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program ABET-accredited in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
• GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Graduating in 2028 or 2029 is required.

Responsibilities

• Support transmission engineering projects involving high-voltage (33kv - 230kV) transmission lines and facilities.
• Bill of material development and material requisitions.
• Assist with PLS-CADD design and AutoCAD drawings.
• Review encroachment and T&D joint-use requests.
• Review engineering drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
• Utilize engineering software and GIS tools to support project work.
• Participate in field visits to transmission lines, substations, and construction sites.
• Collaborate with engineers and operations teams on projects.

Job Summary

As an intern, you will work alongside engineers and technicians on real world projects that support the reliability of the electrical grid. The internship offers valuable technical experience, professional development, and insight into a career in the electric utility industry.

• Support transmission engineering projects involving high‑voltage (33kv - 230kV) transmission lines and associated facilities.
• Bill of material development and material requisitions.
• Assist with PLS-CADD design & AutoCAD drawings.

• Utilize engineering software (PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, MFAD, etc.), GIS tools, and Microsoft Office applications to support project work.
• Participate in field visits to transmission lines, substations, and construction sites to observe utility operations and engineering practices.
• Collaborate with engineers and operations teams on projects.
• Learn and apply Dominion Energy's commitment to safety, operational excellence, and environmental stewardship.
• AutoCAD experience or prior AutoCAD coursework.

Education Requirements

• Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program that is ABET accredited majoring in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
• Must have a GPA of 3.0 or above
• Must have a graduation date of 2028 or 2029
