Job summary

Thinklance LLP invites energetic students to join our electrical engineering team as a substation design intern. You will support drawing development, one-lines, and power systems analysis under supervision, gaining real-world experience in HV projects.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in ABET-accredited EE programs, proficient with AutoCAD or MicroStation, and eager to learn, collaborate, and communicate effectively within a project team.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in an ABET-accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program in Electrical Engineering.
• Interest in high voltage power engineering or renewable energy through internships or coursework.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD or MicroStation is beneficial.
• Strong willingness to learn and develop professionally.
• Good written and verbal communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing substation layout drawings including plan/elevations and grounding details.
• Support substation one-lines, AC/DC power systems, and DC schematics.
• Perform basic engineering calculations and prepare reports.
• Assist in wind power calculations and collection station design.
• Assist in preparing equipment specifications for substation components.

Your Role

Here’s what you will be doing:

• Support real client projects by assisting in developing substation layout drawings, including plan and elevations, yard layouts, grounding details, and raceway designs for new and existing substations.
• Support the development of substation one-lines, auxiliary AC/DC power systems, and DC schematics.
• Aid in performing basic engineering calculations and preparing reports.
• Contribute to wind power calculations and assist in collection station design.
• Assist in preparing equipment specifications for substation components and construction.

About You

The company is looking for:

• Enrollment in an ABET-accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program in Electrical Engineering.
• Demonstrated interest in high voltage power engineering, substation design, or renewable energy through prior internships, work experiences, or applied academic coursework.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and MicroStation.
• Strong commitment to learning and professional development.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Familiarity with engineering software used in substation design is advantageous.

Compensation & Benefits

• Hourly salary range of $21.00 - $28.00, dependent upon experience and geographic location.
