Job summary

Southland Industries offers an internship program in Occupational Health and Safety to help you learn the fundamentals of safety management within the Design/Build HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection industry.

You will assist the Safety Manager to enforce safety procedures, coordinate division safety activities, and support construction process safety across sites while developing professional skills and industry knowledge.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree aligned with Southland needs in Occupational Health and Safety.
• Working knowledge of construction safety practices and OSHA regulations.
• Ability to learn safety and loss management while working with field teams.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all project-site tasks are performed safely per company safety policies and OSHA standards.
• Assist in implementing and distributing safety tailgate meetings and training materials.
• Maintain MSDS records and safety manuals for distribution.
• Help manage and report workers compensation claims and vehicle claims.

Position Summary

Our internship program is designed to introduce candidates to a career field of Occupational Health & Safety for the Design/Build HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection industry. Primary responsibility is to assist the Safety Manager in enforcing and regulating all safety procedures to ensure that Southland Industries meets all safety requirements in the field and all facilities to better understand the management and coordination of all division safety activities and construction process.

Position Details

• Ensure all tasks and functions on project sites are performed safely in accordance with company safety policies and OSHA standards.
• Help implement the Corporate Safety Award Program.
• Provide distribution of certification cards for various industrial equipment training and maintain record of industrial equipment training.
• Report and manage all company vehicle claims.
• Assist in reporting workers compensation claims.
• Update Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) manual.
• Assemble various safety manuals for distribution.
• Assist in implementing and distributing safety tailgate meetings.
• Maintain record of signed safety tailgate meeting forms.

Pay:

For Maryland-based internship roles, the pay rate is set at $26.00 per hour, in alignment with program guidelines and market standards.

Contingent Employment:

Roles that include driving as an essential job duty will be required to have a successful Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR). We are not able to offer sponsorship of employment at this time.
