Job summary

Tallgrass is seeking Summer 2027 interns for a PHMSA Compliance internship in Lakewood, CO. You will work on pipeline safety regulations, inspections, and audit support.

You will learn PHMSA rules, collaborate across departments, and contribute to training tools using AI. The program is in-person/hybrid for 10 weeks (May–August) with housing support.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering; expected graduation Dec 2026–May 2028.
• Experience with Excel and PowerPoint is preferred.
• Familiarity with process flow diagrams; CAD is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Learn MOP/MAOP Confirmation.
• Assist with audit prep – reviewing records, procedures, SSPs and field visits.
• Fine tune agency inspections and enforcement status update processes.
• Develop training/testing tools from O&M procedures using AI.

What this Department does

The PHMSA Compliance Department oversees the company’s compliance program related to Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) pipeline safety regulations (49 CFR Parts 190-199), as well as any applicable state regulations. Our responsibilities include facilitating inspections, conducting incident investigations, responding to enforcement actions, providing training, and overseeing the updates to relevant operations, maintenance, engineering and design, construction, and public awareness manuals.

• Helping fine tune the following processes:
  • Agency inspections
  • Enforcement response / status update
• Development of training/testing tools from the O&M procedures using AI.

Education

Students actively enrolled in an approved Bachelor of Engineering degree program with expected graduation date of December 2026-May 2028

What Else Do You Need To Know

Our internships are temporary full-time positions, in-person/hybrid at our Lakewood, CO. office. We will host our Summer 2027 interns from May-August for 10 weeks.

Compensation And Other Benefits

• Pay Range $26.18-$37.09 USD hourly
• The final pay for this role will depend on a variety of factors, including a specific candidate's experience, qualifications, skills, and working location. The total compensation package for this role may also include; paid time off, a housing stipend, and more.
